georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 07/10/2026This sounds like one of those situations where boundaries for your own benefit are important, although I appreciate this is very difficult with a parent. 010
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 07/10/2026No I didn't! Even while I was speaking though my brain was screaming with whatever it was, I couldn't really focus on what I was sayjng🤦 😂 Course is alright thank you, it's giving my brain a good work out. 110
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 07/10/2026For some context I'm currently on a training course with professionals I don't know. Day 1 we had to go round the room to introduce ourselves and of course my brain started coming up with the worst things I could say and LOUD. By the time it was my turn I wasn't quite sure what would come out! 110
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 07/10/2026When you get asked to speak in public or a meeting and your brain immediately thinks of all the worst possible things you could say in that moment. Or at least mine does. 020
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Hi all, hope everyone is doing OK. I'm also in avoidance mode I think, which is not good long term but also means OCD isn't ruining every day, but it sort of means it is running the show really. It's exhausting isn't it. 221
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 23/09/2026100% with you on this, it's exhausting even when you/we appear to be doing OK. I explained it to a friend as like driving a car with the brakes and the accelerator down, it might be moving forward but it's using a lot of energy and grinding everything inside to do so. 231
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 16/09/2026...in certain situations, but less progress or gone backwards in others. This seems to be the way though. Hope everyone else is doing OK. #OCDTalkHour 110
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 16/09/2026It's been up and down with ocd though, on the one hand a regular sleep and exercise routine is good and on the other hand a lot of emotions have come to the surface that I didn't expect, I guess it's just big life changes making you unsettled. Had some significant progress with ocd induced panic... 100
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Hi all, not checked in in a while but a few changes here. I finished working night shifts a few months ago (redundancy) and am now unemployed. I intended to have a couple of months off work to reset so it's been good in a lot of ways, allowed me to properly get back on a sleep schedule. 110
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I've had this, even after hearing that other people had it so *knowing* that it was OCD and still had a really hard time convincing myself not to turn around. 130

georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 23/08/2026I love how when I have good intentions to get up early so I can have more time I'm then wide awake until 3, or 4, or 5 and am then a write off the following day. Thanks brain. 🧠 060

georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 25/05/2026I wear a mask when I'm on a plane because I've usually spent a decent amount of money and used some of my only time off to go on a holiday I would rather enjoy than be sick for, but OK. 030

georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 15/05/2026Welcome to Wales. 🏴 Penarth can be absolutely fantastic too. 030
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 08/05/2026Yeah, I don't do too badly on amount of sleep and have always been a night owl - it's the switching sleep cycle back and forth between days and nights that's been getting me recently. Hard agree with neighbours doing DIY! 😭🤦 010
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 06/05/2026Yeah I'm glad to be finishing nights soon, as much as I've suited it sleep cycle disruption does not do OCD or over thinking any good. Funnily enough this is something I've only realised has been a problem in retrospect. 120
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 06/05/2026I'm still struggling with excessive night shift overtime but getting through it, less than 2 months left to go but really having to put myself first and try to put things in place like cycling to work, sleep etc. Just come off nights, will see if I sleep tonight or stare at the ceiling and dread... 220
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 04/05/2026The Thekla (floating boat bar) is a Bristol institution, worth checking it and the cider boat next door out. 000
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 27/04/2026The centre is getting better for food options all the time, the indoor market particularly worth checking out. Not sure what area you are moving to, but public transit around Cardiff is going through a lot of changes to improve with the Metro at the moment too. Currently lovely in the sun too! ☀️🏴 120
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Long term Cardiff resident here. While the suburbs can be a bit harder, there's a lot of good food options and international supermarkets available if you can get to them. Check out City Rd and the area around Delikatesy Mis on Penarth Rd for a couple of areas you should find what you're after. 120
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Windy but warm and sunny here (🏴), flip flops and shorts weather. 110
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Yeah, I'm working night shift a lot at the moment. I find solitary night work can be quite bad for thinking yourself down a spiral, I also find when I switch back after I'll be emotionally unsettled for a few days. To combat this I've been out in the sun doing something for me today! 🌞 120
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 22/04/2026I am trying to have structure though, exercise regularly and eat well, focus on sleep and say no to things I can't take on (this I find so hard but is like a super power honestly). Couple of months of it to go and hopefully I'll be more me again. 020
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 22/04/2026...and also means you don't keep up with strategies to treat it. 120
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Hi all, I'm a bit late this week sorry. Having a hard time with fatigue at the moment, drawn the short straw with cover in work and due to getting made redundant in a couple of months feel like I can't really say no. Always find extra night shifts and flipping my sleep schedule ramps up ocd... 220
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 18/04/2026Exactly. I'm not saying what's happened here is OK, but the papers wanted us to turn a blind eye to that and now to be outraged about this. 🤷 190
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 18/04/2026I'm not particularly pro-Starmer but I can't help feel that under any of the last few governments this would have barely been newsworthy. 1130
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 13/04/2026I'd like my mate who used to strawpedo a bottle of wine to catch up to be sent over as some sort of ambassador. 000
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 05/04/2026Anyone who's worked with a narcissist with power over them can recognise the dynamics at play here. Both the positive/charming comments and public insults and bullying are equally false and just tools for manipulation. I do wonder if world leaders can't see themselves in the role of the bullied. 010
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 28/03/2026Good news for those of us on night shift though! 11 hours instead of 12 tonight. 010
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 25/03/2026Sometimes I find I'm actually a little better with this when I don't have much time, almost like the comulsions expand to fill whatever time you have available? 120
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 23/03/2026Depending on how many days you have and if you have transport, the coast at Ericeira is beautiful for a day trip. 000
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 13/03/2026Also, I barely ever come across a bank note any more. 000
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Can empathise with this one, it's not a primary fear for me but I avoid those conversations too because I worry they'll be catastrophic or no way back - when really not having them has a bigger negative impact and usually even if they're uncomfortable they aren't disastrous. 121
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 11/03/2026It's scary and upsetting x number of years later when you look back and realise how much of your life has been unlived because you avoided the things that really mattered to you. 231
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 11/03/2026...which mean I *mostly don't feel the fear* because the avoidance behaviours keep me from either actually encountering it or confronting it. At this point I think I'm more afraid of feeling the fear than I am of the actual underlying thing. 231
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Totally agree with it being subconscious when you've had it a long time. I remember the day my major fear kicked in, and I remember avoiding the thing and truly believing I'd only avoid it that one time...which grew and grew and years later I've developed all sorts of avoidance behaviours... 231
georgebikes.bsky.social @georgebikes.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Unfortunately no, more intangible life direction stuff. If it was something like I want to go on a holiday but my ocd is stopping me, I think (for me, not speaking for others) I could see that as I know what the better decision is if I can get past the OCD. 010
