The cost of capping rates sooner than required (as some at WCC are pushing) is a reduced ability to borrow to repair our already failing infrastructure. I’m yet to see an argument to justify the rush to meet a rates cap before we have to www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3610...

News of WCC job cuts is troubling to me, and people clinging to a dubious Deloitte report to justify them. Greens including me voted against some of the cuts - eg cycleways and climate change. Instead I put up cuts to consultant budgets. The rates pressure is real but job cuts hurt us all too.

Just to clarify, there is not another decision required on the City to Sea Bridge, and the decision to do this work was made well in advance of local body elections (last year). Subject to any appeal (which should be signalled this week), there is no other barrier to proceeding.

Wellington has doubled the length of bus lanes and bus priority over this council term. One result is afternoon peak travel times from Newtown to Courtenay Pl are a third faster. But the full benefits of these bus lane time savings rely on doing the Golden Mile and Harbour Quays projects ASAP. 1/

Massive week at work coming up to complete our LTP amendment, and to decide on water delivery model. The amendment is hard - we have to cut capital expenditure (building stuff, basically) as we are under insured by around 2 billion dollars. The savings mean we can borrow 1/4

It’s still early days of the new District Plan but it’s good to see that Wellingtons consents are recovering faster than the rest of NZ. In Q1 we have consented 39% of what we did in all of 2024 (NZ has consented 23% of its 2024 number in Q1)

Cr Calvert is either lying or grossly misinformed. The upgrade of our social housing is debt funded but ring fenced. The debt is entirely funded through tenants rents not by rates.
