After 14 weeks of emerging from the darkness of winter, and wondering how light it will be in #Orkney at 5pm, we've finally arrived back in the light. It's a beautiful sunny afternoon. We made it. Rejoice.💡❤️

These photos come from Tuesday's Wintering Well walk. The walking group noticed the beautiful ripples in this cloud as we spent time admiring the light changing, the clouds moving, and the sun reflecting in the water.

Today is #BlueMonday but we're not blue because we know that the days are getting longer and we're getting back to lovely blue skies and sunshine. (this photograph was NOT taken today)

Orkney Library's electric van parked near the shore with the Brough of Birsay in the distance. The sky and the sea are very blue.

It's Monday night AGAIN and it's already time for EPISODE THREE of 'How light is it in #Orkney at 5pm this week?' It's a month since the winter solstice and we've already got an hour more daylight each day and OMG it is literally THIS light! 💡

The view out the back of the library. The
sky is dark blue with lighter patches
in streaks. Streetlights are on in the
foreground.

Today is what some people refer to as 'Blue Monday' January can be a particularly challenging time of year. As part of Wintering Well and #RethinkingSAD, we're encouraging people to get out into the daylight as much as possible - whether that's a lunchtime walk or spending 10 mins at the window.

Even on a gloomy day, there's still light to be found in the white cloudy sky. Take a look up at the sky today and see what you notice - patterns of light through the clouds, movement, colours, textures...? ☁️✨ #ShareYourSunshine #RethinkingSAD

If you don’t have a local library card, it should be your New Year’s resolution to get one. It’s an easy resolution to keep and you’ll actually use it, trust me.

The ‘climate change and mental ill health’ event held in @uofglasgow.bsky.social last week has a fascinating graphic summary by @jennycapondraws.bsky.social. 40 invited delegates made this a brilliant start to abmuch needed national conversation! @drcenz.bsky.social
