A dense foreground of low tundra shrubs in yellow and green autumn colour sweeps toward a dramatic wall of dark, jagged peaks under a turbulent storm sky, with shafts of light breaking through the cloud cover and illuminating sections of the rock faces and the valley between the summits. A small cluster of aspen trees in warm golden and yellow autumn foliage stands brilliantly illuminated against a near-black shadowed forest backdrop, their slender white trunks rising from a field of pale dry grass that glows in the same warm directional light. The tight grouping of trees — a tall central trio flanked by smaller companions on either side — gives the scene an intimate, familial quality, as though the trees have gathered closely together. This beautifully lit autumn nature photograph from the Canadian Rockies captures the magic of a single shaft of light finding its subject against the darkness.

A sweeping black and white portrait-orientation photograph looks across the rocky, tufted alpine terrain of Piper Pass toward the jagged, heavily snow-covered peak of Elpoca Mountain in the Canadian Rockies, its dramatic pointed summit piercing a turbulent sky of rolling dark clouds with bright light breaking through from behind. Large dark boulders and clumps of wild grass fill the shadowed foreground, leading the eye along a winding alpine stream through the open valley toward the mountain beyond. The monochrome treatment heightens the contrast between the brooding sky and brilliant snow-covered peak, lending the scene a powerful, timeless quality.

The iconic three pointed summits of the Three Sisters rise dramatically in the background above Canmore, Alberta, silhouetted against a warm, glowing sunset sky of soft gold and pale blue. A dramatic jagged mountain peak emerges through swirling mist and brooding storm clouds in this moody black and white Canadian Rockies landscape photograph, its dark rocky summit rising sharply into a luminous break in the grey sky with two distinctive rock spires at its crown that bear a striking resemblance to a hand making a peace sign. The monochrome treatment deepens the contrast between the inky silhouetted foreground ridgelines and the bright, cloud-diffused light illuminating the central peak, amplifying the raw power and theatrical atmosphere of the scene. This striking black and white mountain nature photograph proves that the wilderness has a sense of humour, hiding playful moments of joy within its most dramatic and imposing landscapes.

A view from high on the Drakensberg escarpment looking down through a narrow gorge into a broad, lush green valley far below, with a partial rainbow arcing above the sunlit cliff face on the left under a dramatic stormy sky. Taken in Yukon Canada in 2024 during a birthday trip North to enjoy the Northern winter.

A dense hillside of snow-laden black spruce trees fills the frame, their dark forms dusted in white and receding up the slope into a band of low cloud that cuts diagonally across the upper portion of the image. A classic autumn alpine landscape featuring vivid golden larch trees surrounding a rocky, still lake that reflects a dramatic snow-dusted mountain peak under a partly cloudy sky. Scattered boulders fill the shallow foreground waters, leading the eye back toward the treeline and the imposing peaks beyond. The rich contrast between the brilliant yellow larches, grey rock faces, and fresh snow captures the brief but spectacular larch season in the Canadian Rockies.

A narrow, gently curving river winds through a dense expanse of low tundra shrubs toward a perfectly symmetrical, cone-shaped mountain rising alone on the horizon under a dramatic, cloud-streaked sky. A sunlit old-growth conifer forest with tall, deeply furrowed trunks framing a luminous middle ground where raking light filters through the canopy and illuminates a small understory shrub in golden yellow. A close-up macro photograph of a small, pale mushroom growing from a moss-covered log on a forest floor, with a softly blurred woodland background. The delicate bell-shaped cap and slender dark stem are sharply rendered against the vivid green moss, creating a striking contrast in colour and texture. Happy #WetWednesday er #WaterWednesday er #WaterfallWednesday er... *Sigh* hopefully you'll enjoy this waterfall closeup! #landscapephotography #photography #canada #lpw
A closeup of a massive waterfall. The water and shadows a deep blue colour due to the strong shadows cast across the scene. The water trickles down hundreds of small sharper rocks, with many of these rocks formed so they point upwards, splitting the water jn multiple thin threads of water. The exposure is long so the water paths as it weaves between these sharp rocks is clear. The rocks also form a circular shape with a bowl like shape in the middle. Its what made me think of a crown and gave the image its name.
