It's been a busy week, with even a busier start. We had a great time in the Pocket Gamer Connects in Barcelona, and we even got awarded 3rd place in the Big Indie Pitch competition. Our many many thanks to @pgconnects.bsky.social for the opportunity.

Diploma of The Big Indie Pitch (pc+ console edition) awarding 3rd place to Song of the Peacock by us (Gentle Gravity Studio). Dated 16th June 2026

A photo of a peacock with a prize ribbon put on top, that reads 3rd place. There is text in the image reading (all in caps for stylistic reasons): We won. Pocket gamer connects Barcelona 2026. Big Indie Pitch Competition. And then in a really small fontsize "And I forgot to take a picture"

As summer approaches, we have quite the agenda in the next months. Among other things, we will be attending Pocket Gamer Connects Barcelona on the 15h and 16th of June. We'll have a newer version of a demo available, too!

We are adding parallax to all scenes in the game. You can see how your room in the palace looks now, including the new animation for the little bear. It's alive! You might notice an update in our GUI too. There will be a lot to show you guys in our next events.

One design challenge in our game was imagining what the frog spirit's tadpoles might look like, while still playing with the elements that characterize an adult frog (the hands, the spider elements). This little one is very special. One might even say, a frog princess.

A number of rough lineal sketches against a soft aquamarine background, that explore the appeareance of a fantasy tadpole that is wearing a conical hat in all of it itterances. In the discarded versions, there is a main blob for the face, and seems to be standing on small hands. The final design is coloured and detailed. It has a round body with its limbs, short and rounded, coming out in the same distribution that that of fingers on a hand. It has a visible yellow belly, and six beady eyes, with a small mouth. It is wearing a conical green hat with a small penchant. The hat is tied around its body and upper arms with a couple of bows. A sketch besides it demonstrates that it moves by rolling around its limbs.

For this labour day, we wanted to introduce you to some of the palace workers: Boloorma and Naran. It is customary to pair up veteran palace staff with newer servants, as they grow too old to do their regular duties by themselves. Happy international workers day!

A game is not complete without an icon. While there is still a long way ahead of us, we now have designs (from simplified to fully detailed) for Song of The Peacock. We hope that one day in the future, it will sit on your desktop screens, ready to launch you into a big adventure.

Among everything else, something we will be working on for the following months is a save/load system. We already have some preliminary visual of what that might look like. Each pond below is a slot and it will fill with the image of the last scene saved

Something that almost looks like a child, like you, until it is close enough. You could call it a ghost. It is the whisper of what remained, and it doesn't sound quite human. There are so many of it. But it means you no harm. (Another peek into later characters of the game)

The palace gardens are cared for by Batbayar, a kind man who loves children. He acts as a father figure to Kai. Younger than you but already taller, Kai is a refugee from another nation, and she is Blessed like you are. They might have something for you in the garden. #SongOfThePeacock

These frog spirits tap on their body to make music and manifest magic. The design takes inspiration in some arachnids as well.

Some lore for Friday! Here is some folklore from the kingdom of Togos. A story that serves as a cautionary tale: spirits don't always help the ways we expect them to, or in ways we like. This is completely bonus information, as a mention of it barely appears in game.

A simplified drawing of a farmer, in ceramic colours. She hears music, indicated by bright orange notes. In the corner a text reads: "The origin of the Golden River is a legend that starts with a simple farmer. One that was living her life. "

A simplified drawing in ceramic colours. In the centre one eye surrounded by scales shows in an opening on the ground,as it breaks around it. It looks like an egg hatching. The bright orange notes are there, indicating that this is the origin of the music. In the corner a text reads: "In the vastness of all the land, all that Xoria is, part of the god spirit had awaken to new conscience. And their eye was golden."

A simplified drawing in ceramic colours. It shows the farmer using her tool to leverage the ground, as a bright orange snake comes out of the earth. In the corner a text reads: "Once a scale, now a snake; the farmer helped their release from earth. Pouring it went, free."

A simplified drawing in ceramic colours. A brown peacock is in the background, with a menacing pose and a extended claw. The bright orange snake curls around the now orange silhouette of the farmer, with movement lines that suggest the magic taking place. In the corner the text reads "But punishment awaited the farmer. Xoria was enraged by this defiance. For her protection, she was encased in gold by the Serpent, forever untouched. A statue by the River’s tail"

The uniform for the royal guard is designed with form over function, showing the insignia and the colours of your house. This is one of the characters you can approach in the patio, as she guards the doors to a very important meeting. But will she let you in?

Having a pet is wonderful. Having a bear cub as a pet is even better! and we plan to let you pet it and hug it in our game.

An illustration with a white background, of a kid embracing a bear cub. The little bear is about the same height as the kid, and it is returning the hug, with both paws on the kid's shoulders. The kid is wearing white robes with blue decorations, and has a symbol on their back that matches the one in the small fabric tag in the cub's right ear: a ring with a cropped circle in its centre, a shape that resembles the pattern on peacock's feathers.

The illustration of a small bear cub being petted behind the ears by two floating hands. It has the same blue tag in their right ear as in previous images of the set. Their face is scrunched with pleasure at the attention, mouth slightly open.

A small bear cub seated on their hind legs, calmly looking to the viewer. The little bear has a blue tag on their ear with the emblem of the family in white, a circle with a small, somewhat heart-shaped dot in the middle, resembling the pattern in the wings of peacocks.

Laia Serra is the talented musician composing for Song of the Peacock. For the music that will play in the palace, we looked for something somber, that reflected the weight of a space reserved for royalty.
