Paty was her youngest. A model. Strikingly pretty, brilliant, loved by everyone. She painted flowers in every color. Then the flowers lost their shape. Then the voices grew louder. Then it all changed. #MentalHealthAwareness #BookSky #AlleleBooks

Eugenia was born beautiful. She grew up and married young to a promising doctor in Mexico. Five children: four would go on to remarkable careers. Then the symptoms began, and the family learned to live around a mother who was not always reachable. #MentalIllness #SiblingLoss #FamilyMentalHealth

7/7 Science is political. 3 words. That is the aphorism Christian Cazares offered when asked about his life. Not a provocation: a description. His story now reaches an estimated 1.5 billion people worldwide. 🌍 Full interview: doi.org/10.61373/bm0... 🌐 genomicpress.com 📚 interviews.genomicpress.com

6/7 📰 This interview went global today. EurekAlert! press releases in 7 languages. Picked up by 120+ US television stations. Indexed in Google, ChatGPT, Bing. Entered Bloomberg Terminal. Reached 1,359 journalists across Mexico, California, and the US. 🌐 www.eurekalert.org/news-release...

5/7 Before passing his qualifying, Cazares co-founded Colors of the Brain, a nonprofit that funds scholars, and pays the highest stipends of UCSD summer programs. ⭐ Because unpaid research favors students who can work for free. That is the whole point. Colors of the Brain mentors and scholars, 2023.

4/7 🧠 His research now runs on three tracks: EEG-to-cortical-organoid correspondence in autism, transcriptomic signatures in a Rett model, and linking cortical electrophysiology to reflexive behavior in patients who cannot complete standard lab tasks. 🔬 The goal: biomarkers that can reach Calexico.
101
Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 17/03/2026
3/7 The turning point was watching his nephew with autism wait hours for a specialist in a town with no specialists. 💡 That moment pointed Cazares toward scalp EEG research: portable, affordable, no major medical center required. The science chose the instrument. Equity chose the science.

2/7 Christian Cazares grew up in Calexico, CA. First-generation college student. Paid rent with research stipends. That background did not slow him down. It became the foundation of everything he has built since. 🔗 🌎 Read the full Genomic Press Interview in Brain Medicine: doi.org/10.61373/bm0...

5/8 Exercise history could be a biomarker for psilocybin. Food restriction disrupts inflammation-social links. @SheidaShadani: "These findings reveal subtle, context-dependent effects... underscoring the need to clarify temporal, neuroplastic, and immune mechanisms." Tailored treatments incoming? 🎯💡

Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 04/02/2026
4/8 Inflammation bombshell: Psilocybin spiked IL-6 in RW mice (P=0.0029), and higher IL-6 linked to more novelty preference (r=0.8020, P=0.0166). But FR wiped out this correlation entirely. In ABA? No IL-6 changes. Metabolic state flips the script on psilocybin's immune effects! 📈⚠️
100
Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 04/02/2026
3/8 Surprise #1: NO social withdrawal in ABA mice! Instead, HYPER novelty-seeking: preferred novel over familiar ones (P=0.02 vs controls). RW mice showed similar in choice phase. Challenges the "social deficits in anorexia" narrative. Psilocybin? Reduced novelty in controls only, no other shifts.🤯

Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 04/02/2026
2/8 Setup: 56 female C57BL/6 mice divided into 4 groups 🐭🍄🔬 • Activity-Based Anorexia (anorexia model) • Food Restriction (FR) • Running Wheel (RW) • Controls Single psilocybin dose (1.5 mg/kg IP) or saline, tested 4-5 hrs later on social preference. Rigorous, female-focused design FTW! 🧪📊

1/8 🧵 Breaking: Groundbreaking study drops in Psychedelics! Psilocybin's effects on social behavior & inflammation in female mice modeling anorexia nervosa? TOTALLY context-dependent on metabolism & exercise. Explains why only ~40% respond in human trials. Implications for personalized therapy!

Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 28/01/2026
6/8 Key takeaway: Aging isn't inevitable decline—it's adaptable resilience. Preserved proteostasis, upgraded immune configs (cytotoxic CD4+ T cells!), rare variants in HLA, IL7R, autophagy, DNA repair genes. Brazil's admixed supercentenarians are rewriting the rules.
100
Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 28/01/2026
5/8 The science is next-level: • Whole-genome sequencing of 160+ centenarians (20 supercentenarians) • iPSC brain organoids, muscle/heart/lung cells • Immune profiling (robust IgG & neutralizing Abs vs COVID-19, unvaccinated in 2020!) They stayed sharp, independent, and dealt with threats.
100
Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 28/01/2026
4/8 Why Brazil? Genetic goldmine. Centuries of admixture: European + African + Native American + Japanese waves = millions of unique variants missing from global databases. Most longevity studies? Stuck on homogeneous groups. Brazil's diversity hides protective "super" genes invisible elsewhere. 🌍🧬

3/8 Meet Sister Inah: world's oldest person until 2025 (116!). Chocolate-obsessed nun who never skipped sugar or fat. 🍫🙏 Brazil also boasts 3 of the top 10 longest-lived validated MEN worldwide, including the current oldest living man. Extreme male longevity is rare... yet Brazil is crushing it.

7/8 🚨 Future: Develop isoform-specific, BBB-crossing drugs. Inhibit α1 to rescue? Boost α2 to prevent? Study brain regions, CNS vs peripheral roles. Precision targeting could end mixed trial results!
100
Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 09/01/2026
6/8 📊 Biomarkers ahead: Plasma α1 (not α2) LOWER in AD/MCI patients. Isoform ratios could enable early blood/CSF/imaging diagnosis. Plus, genetic α1 suppression fixes AD proteome changes in models and α2 doesn't.
100
Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 09/01/2026
5/8 ⚠️ Dual pathways: In familial AD, Aβ amps α1 → eEF2 overphosphorylation → protein synthesis halt. In late-onset, α2 loss + α1 rise → eIF2α via PERK → same translation block. End result? Memory loss. Check Figure 1 for the model!
110
Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 09/01/2026
4/8 💊 METFORMIN MYSTERY CRACKED: Diabetes drug sometimes protects, sometimes worsens AD. Why? It activates isoforms differently; e.g., nuclear α2 in some cells, cytoplasmic α1 in others. Resveratrol favors α2 (3x), GLP-1 boosts α2, carbachol hits α1.
100
Genomic Press @genomicpress.bsky.social · 09/01/2026
3/8 Model evidence: In AD mice, knocking down α1 RESTORES memory, synaptic plasticity, spine density, independent of amyloid/tau. But reduce α2? Synapses fail, cognition crashes. Dr. Tao Ma: Opposing roles in brain health!
