Okay, I'm calling it: AI has solved music, or at least pop rock. The songs coming out of it are pure fire, and they're making pretty solid videos at the same time. BTW, you don't get to argue about AI unless you watch this at least up to the bridge with the mom. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXoP...

People arguing whether AI will kill us all are missing the point. It might be *by accident*. If nothing else, the (supposed) solution to the Navier-Stokes problem shows a vulnerability - if AI solves P=NP then civilization comes to a halt *suddenly*. It might not be the end but it'll be a disaster.

Need suggestions. 10th wedding anniversary is coming up. We had originally planned a reception-like party, but then we figured why not go to Australia, but now it looks like we won't be getting to Oz before the spring, so I need something to do or somewhere to go. London? Vegas? A train? Karaoke?

There's a new AI video generator called Minimax H3. Someone hooked it up so that it creates video in real-time, to user prompts. This is the first infinite AI generated content stream. I dunno. Your brain wants to make sense of it, but can't. It's random and bizarre. infiniteslop.ai

None, and I mean zero, of the responses are addressing the problem here -- AI lets people bring their dreams to life. It is the *wrong* way to give life to your dreams, because your dreams are now enslaved to a tool. But people just want to dream. Doesn't help to insist they practice.

A criminal seen leaving the scene of the crime.
My dog Ripley, a tricolor setter, walking toward the camera away from his water bowl. Around the water bowl is a lake of spilled water sprayed out from the bowl by this messy criminal. He has no regrets.

Socialism and totalitarianism are similar. How? They're both responses to capitalism. Capitalism needs to be reined in. The right chose totalitarianism to do that. And it could have worked! A benevolent, competent totalitarian could have forced reforms on capitalism. We, ah, didn't get that.

Best analogy I can think of for the AI data center problem? Transmutation. You *can* transmute lead to gold, it just takes a giant cyclotron. If you want to build an industry around transmutation, you'll need lots of giant cyclotrons. And you'll crash the gold market so it won't be worth it.

So how exactly do horcruxes work? If you're about to die, do your horcruxes spontaneously and suddenly die after a short trip to Ukraine and Disney World? Asking for an enemy. 😁

Yes, I have a comfort video game. Don't judge me. 😁
A screenshot from the video game City of Heroes, showing my character Hope Hellbound -- a demoness-looking youth with bat wings, horns, and red skin -- lounging on a rubber innertube with a drink in her hand. The inner tube is floating in a pool with a marble walkway and some other heroes visible in the distance. Beyond that is extradimensional space...but let's not talk about that.

The illustration for FRIDAY was in my mind when it came to make the cover for PLATINUM DONKEYS. While I am nowhere near as talented as Mr. Whelan, images get stuck in my head the same way. This is how Maggie was meant to look and I'm glad (even using some sketchy tools) I was able to get there.
The cover to PLATINUM DONKEYS, my sci-fi novel. It shows a blonde wearing an iridized dress and holding a wineglass as if in toast. The blonde has a sly smile. Behind her is the porthole of a space station, looking down onto the planet Earth.

I had an image in my head this morning and I wanted to bring it to fruition. A blue fist of rebellion, punching outward at a surrounding circle of red ideologies -- but it's clear that the blue outnumbers the red, overall.
A logo resembling (but distinct from) the Star Wars rebellion logo. It has the forward-swept wings colored in blue and attached to a blue fist punching upward. Surrounding all that is white, and surrounding all that is a circle of red.

1. Elites enjoy a culture of decadence. 2. The decadence creates widespread economic hard times. 3. To protect their wealth, the elites prop up an authoritarian stooge to ensure austerity programs don't hit them. 4. The authoritarian stooge goes wacky and starts wars. That's 1920s Germany. Right?

Today on "Deep Dives in which Google has failed me", I'm trying to figure out why everybody hates Will Stancil. He seems like a socialist that right wingers hate, and the enemy of my enemy is my friend. More importantly, he lives in my broad neighborhood and is offering what sounds like good advice.

If you're from Minnesota, this article is a great pat on the back. My favorite paragraph:
The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about “Western civilization,” while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.

It's not official that we have a new dog yet, but my granddaughter has grown unreasonably fond of this one. For those not keeping track, the scrawny white one is new. He's a foster that we are considering keeping.
My four-year-old granddaughter sitting on a beanbag chair with her family's dog -- an aussie shepherd mix whose tongue is curled over his nose in this pict -- and our dog Ripley, a handsome spotted setter. A third dog, a scrawny white Wheaton terrier with a brown ombre on his ears, is being held by the collar by my granddaughter as she beams.

I've just been cocooning in games lately, and I made a mistake with Rimworld. It's a fine game, but if you've played Dwarf Fortress then Rimworld is deeply boring. Yes, lots of things can happen but you'll never see anything like that insanity of a dwarf fortress spiral.

Quote this with a book you read way too young that explains why you are the way you are. Hahahaha! I think I was eleven when I read this. Soft porn -- and *weird* porn -- definitely had an effect on this young boy's development.
The pulp-art cover of 'Venus on the Half-Shell', showing a spaceman wearing red briefs, black knee-length boots, a bubble helmet -- and nothing else. There is also a woman wearing somewhat less. They are stanging on an oyster shell, floating in space, with a dog and an owl (the spaceman's pets) and a space station in the distance.

You all know that I'm avoiding the news, and I fell into a hole of Rap Battles on YouTube. The flows are pretty good and the disses are fine, but I'm worried that these songs are affecting my mind. I'm talking in a rhythm and what's even worse, everything I say is in two-line rhyme verse! 😁

My second submission. I think I prefer this one. Graphics can be misunderstood; words are clearer, and being a quote from a famous advocate of liberty gives a strong impression.
A protest poster bearing the words, "Of more worth is one honest man to society and in the sight of God, then all the crowned ruffians that ever lived. Thomas Paine" The 'No Kings' logo is in the lower right corner.

Pour a bottle out for Landsat 7. At 1808z today, they switched my boy off. L7 was the first satellite program I worked in and the first space launch I attended. While L7 had its problems I'm proud of the work we did calibrating it into the most accurate land cover satellite of its era. Vale, L7!

My granddaughter Delaney, a four-year-old weirdo, holding a sign with a skull wearing an eyepatch and the saying, "The beatings will continue 'til morale improves". She's holding up her other hand with her finger as a hook, and I'm told she said 'Yaaar!' when the picture was taken.

By the way, the perfect ratio for Paas Easter egg colors is one color tablet, one teaspoon of baking soda, and then one half cup of vinegar. You get the fun volcanic explosion (mix this in at least a two cup container) and then you're left with a useable dye.

This may be a hot take, but aside from the entertainment of their incompetence I don't care what Trump's administration does with the economy. The economy can be fixed. It's a sideshow. I care about the damage Trump does to civil rights and democracy. Everything, everything else is a distraction.
