RIP to Mike Ditka, the greatest coach who ever stalked a sideline. He was one magnificent, foul-mouthed son of a bitch. Da Bears.

It's true. A fast food franchise put out an emo EP and it's actually... kinda good. This is devastating news for anyone who still believes selling out is supposed to look dumber than this.

A lone guy showed up outside PlayStation headquarters this week to protest the slow disappearance of physical games, which is the kind of extremely specific cause Gen X can get behind.

I mean, you see it too, right?

Our kids weren't the first ones to be fascinated by stupid sh*t.

Tim Curry didn’t make Gen X weird. He just gave us permission to stop apologizing for it. RIP to a legend.

Gen X didn't survive lead paint just to be taken out by a blueberry.

Christopher Nolan spent $250 million making The Odyssey, and this is what I’m bringing to it.

I’m “trusted an anthropomorphic cheese cowboy with my calcium intake” years old.

The ’80s really did offer a perfectly balanced spectrum of parental disappointment

Happy heavenly birthday to Adam "MCA" Yauch, who would've (should've) turned 62 today. He taught an entire generation that punk, hip-hop, Buddhism, skateboards, and standing up for what you believe in could all fit inside the same person.

Nobody at the toy company noticed that Balzac sounds just like ballsack? Or did they all notice and simply choose greatness?

The Uber app of the ’80s was a pay phone and a kid yelling, “Pick me up outside Sears!”

Last night in Chicago, the Smashing Pumpkins brought out Greg Brady to sing “It’s a Sunshine Day” while Flavor Flav head-banged from the audience. This may be the most Gen X thing ever assembled on one stage.

Caddyshack came out 46 years ago today. And every year, I’m becoming more and more like Judge Elihu Smails.

RIP Jennifer Finch, bassist for L7 and one of the architects of ’90s alternative rock. Fuck cancer.

Find someone who believes in you the way Jack Nicholson believed the Bulls deserved the finger.

They should just rename it Colon Cleanse Cantina. Or maybe Baja Blast Radius.

The air quality in much of the Midwest today has officially entered “made-for-TV nuclear apocalypse” territory.

Every Sunday night, Dave Kendall handed Gen X a map to bands nobody else was playing. Rest easy, Dave.

I'd rather argue with the guy behind the counter about whether Guided by Voices belongs in indie or alternative than answer one more Teams notification.

The most important lesson Gen-X learned as kids was how to get people to LEAVE US ALONE!

It's true. Robert Shaw was 47 when Jaws came out. The Quint character today would've been born in 1979.

The hardest part of packing for a summer vacation is deciding which KOOL merch to bring.

First day of summer, which means I will once again spend the next few months trying to recapture the thrill of being 10 years old, chlorine-blind, barefoot on hot concrete, and convinced that a Bomb Pop counted as lunch.

When I say I love Pee-wee Herman, I mean the early Roxy Theatre Pee-wee, the one you had to watch on HBO with the volume low because your parents thought he was for children.

McDonald’s is bringing back the original Fried Apple Pie to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. I've waited 30 years for this moment, and I am emotionally prepared to destroy the roof of my mouth for my country. Who else is ready to taste freedom at 4,000 degrees?

I like to rewatch Meatballs every summer, not for the camp nostalgia (although there's that) but for the reminder from Bill Murray that the world might burn, the system might fail, and we’re all probably doomed, but it just... doesn’t... matter.

Happy almost-summer to the Ferris Buellers of the world, the kids who could've waited three days for summer vacation but chose crime instead.

I won't believe "rock music is back" till I see more guitar solos with the rest of the band doing badly choregegraphed wedding dancing.

The PSAs in the '80s really only had one job: To scare the ever-living sh*t out of us and make sure we all grew up traumatized and skittish.

Every Gen Xer just felt a deep, ancestral stirring in the part of the brain reserved for Top Ten lists, Velcro suits, and things being hurled off buildings.

Gen Z is bringing back our culture, which is nice, I guess. But maybe stick to malls and CDs, and not the stuff we did that was really, really stupid. These kids are restoring the ’90s with the reckless confidence of people who never had to smell the smoking section at a Denny’s.

Generation Excellent @generationxcellent.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
This Kids in the Hall sketch makes me wistful for a time when nobody knew anything and we all just argued in public like free-range idiots. It sounds horrible now, but honestly, it was kind of beautiful. A more innocent, blissfully stupid era before everyone carried a tiny computer in their pocket.

This is not a basketball photo. This is a Renaissance painting where everyone just found out God is a Knicks fan.
