As much as I dislike generative AI for music and artwork - I can see the uses for certain types of programming busy-work.

I think calling every single thing that uses even a tiny bit of AI to look over something as "slop" actively harmful, and takes attention away from the real issues.

I've never been fully against AI. I don't like actual real "slop" like someone generating a stupid image or crappy music, but there's a lots of real-world decent uses for it.

The training data being a problematic one, as is the rise of all the data centres, hardware pricing and so on...

I managed to hunt down a dual-hose one, and I'm so happy about that - but it seems like I might have gotten the last one of that particular model. But sure, dual hose or a mini-split is better, but "normal" mobile units work perfectly fine. They're just a bit less efficient.

Speaking at Parks Associates’ “Future of Video” event this week, Needham Co. analyst Laura Martin noted that Curiosity Stream is licensing 300,000 hours’ worth of its own content, as well as 1.7 million hours’ worth of third-party content. Curiosity Stream splits the AI licensing revenue with those third parties, she said.

In fact, Curiosity Stream is peddling more content to hyperscalers and AI developers than it is to streaming viewers. The company’s library includes 2 million hours of content, but “the overwhelming majority of that is for AI licensing,” Stinchcomb said.
