Yeah I watched it. I was clubbing around the same time so a lot of it resonated, especially the afters and group of socially different people. A lot of mixed emotions about the ending and I did have a good cry. I think I posted about it at the time.

Concluding that Welsh clinicians are over-referring by 3x–5x is based on a base-rate fallacy. Dividing by the gen pop of Wales rather than the active clinical workload of the WGS renders the per 100k population comparison mathematically and epidemiologically meaningless. Professionally incompetent.

ADHD is a subjective diagnosis so there is variation. Some private providers are not CQC registered and not subject to the same quality assessments. The NHS is not required to accept these. Its not picking and choosing. adhdmap.co.uk/guides/priva...

If you have a private diagnosis then get the follow ups from your private provider. Everyone wins - those that can pay do do and those that can't have a (hopefully) shorter wait. (Note: I still believe fixing lack of funding would solve this for everyone).

What these parents are saying is because they now have a diagnosis they should skip the queue that everyone else is on to be admitted to the NHS psychiatrist patient list. This is very unfair to those that have waited because they would have to wait longer. 2/n

My comment was poorly written. If we are just talking about maintaining a script from a private diagnosis then that is something the GP can do (shared care). ADHD mediation requires monitoring and tests with follow up appointments etc that take up clinic time. 1/n

There is one point from this that is true - many parents are using privately acquired diagnoses and then expecting an NHS psychiatrist to continue treatment for free. I think quite rightly they should not be forced to treat without understanding the patient themselves.

I'm pretty sure I have ADHD but never sought out a diagnosis because I have many coping strategies and don't need medication; I'm glad I have a super-power much of the pop. don't. However when I mess up (and I do regularly) I would love to be able to point to a diagnosis and say "see, that's why".

FFS, there is more private diagnoses because NHS consultants are being required to set up new diagnostic capabilities with private providers to remove the load on other CAMHS services. (source: an NHS consultant) I have a better solution, fund NHS CAHMS directly and cut out the private providers.

At a march last year there were lots of chants but the part that stuck with me is "...and non-binary people are awesome" instead of the usual phrase. After which there was always a huge cheer. Now I can't help but mentally tag the phrase on when I hear "trans women are women, trans men are men."
