Buying items for upgrades may have some overlap with Papa's Pizzaria I've never played them so I don't know. The good news is Deadlock lets you search other players item builds and automatically buy what's on the list in the order they set it, so item knowledge is something you can ease into.

On top of that, some characters are built to combo their abilities and set up to apply area pressure (Doorman sets a door/portal to either give his allies a better vantage or can use it in a combo with a stun -> push thru door -> enemy winds up somewhere they DON'T want to be)

There is a parry in Deadlock with a vulnerability period if it fails so you can carry over some bait/punish concepts for that and mindgames with going for a charged/uncharged melee attack to throw off enemy parry timing.

I'd like to beleive the D Gundam going from a mobile worker dressed up as a Gundam, to being refitted multiple times until it IS a Gundam, mirrors Darry's journey from a fan boy of the Gundam's military power and itching to fight, to someone willing to beg for a ceasefire so he can save a life. 2/3

I do sort of wish you got a little frame advantage on wall break if you have all your assists unlocked already. Though I don't know if it matters that much outside of Knowhere, since vying for position to land/avoid a wallsplat at the end of other stages is fun and benefits from neutral reset.

To add to this, Gundam hasn't really dipped into alien encounters much. Thus leading to people thinking it's too much of a departure from what Gundam "is supposed to be". The last factor is the design of the featured gundam not being great. Personally I don't feel I've seen enough to write it off.

Gundam is a series that is defined by its stories, characters, and themes. I think a lot of the apprehension comes from the action focus, and the enemies being inhuman. If they're inhuman, we're unlikely to have developed characters for our protagonists to clash with, so the story would suffer.

I assume it's got the potential to get significantly stranger. If the name Helix is anything to go by, it's probably biomechanical, and since many gundam games do their best to give you customization options, I think we're going to get more traditional looks, and some absolutely insane stuff.

Leaving this here in case I called it Gundam Rouge Orbit's enemies all seem to have animalistic designs so far. The main Gundam is named Gundam Helix. DNA takes the shape of a double helix. That thing's gotta be biomechanical. Possibly incorporating DNA of aliens(?) you fight to get stronger.

Personally I'd reccomend watching the original first. Then you can go Zeta, ZZ, CCA; but you can also choose to watch any of the alternate universe stuff (G, Wing, Seed, etc.) at any time. While you don't NEED the original for any of the AUs, many riff on its concepts or themes (and it's good.)
