Kinda 🫣 There was a lot of stuff I watched in my teens and early 20s from the late 90s/early 00s that were considered “edgy” that haven’t held up. Oz still hits IMHO, even if it’s very of its time. And even with season 6 going off the rails….

Giving one of my all time favorite comfort shows a rewatch. Can you guess what it is? I’ll give a few hints: it’s a drama, it debuted in the late 90s (a couple years before The Sopranos), and surprisingly, it contains no wizardry or ruby slippers, despite its name.

We all deserve to feel healthy and happy in our bodies, and we all deserve to have enjoyable, pleasurable experiences in our bodies. Even if we have a ways to go. Even if we make mistakes. We don’t have to be anyone else’s definition of perfect to be healthy, happy, beautiful, and desirable.

It’s what works for me and has kept me consistent, and I can’t imagine a life without fries and dessert. I do hope to continue progressing in both weigh loss and my health in general, but it’s not tied to a specific date or number or size.

I’m sure many fitness influencer types would say I’m not doing enough: that barre and walking aren’t good enough, that I need to eat X amount of grams of protein, that I need to weigh myself everyday, that I should never eat fries and dessert, etc. Oh well...

I take barre classes 3-5x a week. I volunteer at an animal shelter to walk dogs. I make healthier choices in cooking and when I go out. I don’t religiously count calories/macros. I still get fries and dessert sometimes I don’t beat myself up if I miss a barre class. I don’t weigh myself every day.

I decided not to take a GLP-1. I wanted to see what I could do on my own first, then revisit it if it felt necessary. I wont pretend that aesthetics weren’t part of the equation; they most certainly were. But I knew when I made that the primary focus before, it set me up for constant self criticism

It hasn’t been the fastest weight loss. In fact it has been intentionally slow. I made a conscious decision to make the primary focus my health. I focus on exercise that’s sustainable and enjoyable to me. I focus on making and eating healthier meals. I focus on how my body feels over what it weighs

I certainly don’t mean to make anyone feel bad about where they are with their weight or imply that everyone must lose weight. However, I have also put a lot of consistent work into becoming a healthier version of myself, and I do think that’s worth celebrating

I am officially down 45lbs. I’ve felt ambivalent about saying anything publicly about this. I know that in the age of GLP-1s and heroin chic/early 2000s super skinny culture making a comeback, discussing weigh loss publicly can be especially fraught....

Yeah I feel like too many people think “petite” just means skinny. In clothing especially, it means short. There are petite people of all shapes and sizes.
