Sepsis is the leading cause of preventable deaths in Queensland children, a study has found, occurring at higher rates than youth suicide, road accidents and drownings.

It's really great to see the role of LACs (Navigators) in market stewardship recognised. That's something our research has argued for for years. #NDIS

Hopefully, foundational supports would help all those currently excluded from the #NDIS

Prof Gemma Carey, PhD MMedSci @gemcarey.bsky.social · 07/12/2023
What should be 'foundational'? What should be individual #NDIS? Who is going to decide?
040
Prof Gemma Carey, PhD MMedSci @gemcarey.bsky.social · 06/12/2023
Having worked hard on individualised plans, shifting people back to 'foundational supports' will not be without considerable loss.
020
Prof Gemma Carey, PhD MMedSci @gemcarey.bsky.social · 06/12/2023
So we are going to bring back parts of the old block funded model that sits around the NDIS (the 'ecosystem')? I don't disagree, but the logistics of this will be very difficult. The buck passing, attempts to shift individual budgets onto the block funded parts.. etc

I find it interesting that the Quality and Safeguarding proposal paper doesn't mention COVID. Whose responsibility is it to safeguard participants from COVID, it's likely the biggest cause of mortality and morbidity for ppl with disability

o the review report apparently talks about an ecosystem of services around the NDIS. This speaks to Bruce B's often used metaphor of the NDIS was never meant to be an island. What I cant see is how the structures and processes and governance of the NDIS can, at present,...

It's amazing that at a decade into implementation, we still see so much terminology about transition. Transition systems, transition payment levels, etc
020
Prof Gemma Carey, PhD MMedSci @gemcarey.bsky.social · 05/12/2023
We know 'in-kind' services undermine choice and control, and the states are meant to be fully out of the picture now (tho, current debates pending)... it's a real implementation slide for them to still be in (and distorting) the scheme

Prof Gemma Carey, PhD MMedSci @gemcarey.bsky.social · 05/12/2023
Reading the #NDIS independent review. We are still transitioning in-kind services out at 10 years? Back in 2016 it wasn't meant to go on for much longer. Crazy
