From my own personal, admittedly anecdotal experience, this rings very true. Second-hand EVs - even with 200.000 km mileage - are on sale for more than EUR 10.000. Checking 2nd hand car sites debunks leasing companies claims about poor residual value. Good that @transportenvironment.org dug deeper!

Looking at the cost of used EVs across (e.g. Tesla Model S with 150.000+ kms), you still see prices of EUR 15-20k. Cheap gasoline models, you can find for EUR 5k. A subsidy on used electric vehicles could increase uptake.

No requirement for those truck charger to be bidirectional? At least for the non-public chargers at depots, that would have been a nice-to-have.

Would be similar for electric trucks and cars, but maybe not ten-fold difference, more like 5x: 1 kWh/km for trucks vs 0.2 kWh/km for cars.

But a km driven by a diesel truck has a different energy consumption than a small gasoline car. Diffefence could be 10-fold: 50 liters of diesel /100 km vs 5 liters of gasoline/100 km.

Providing grid services, reducing fossil fuel import dependency and being aligned with net-zero climate goals should help grid operators manage the connection queue (combined with a milestone-based, ‘use it or lose it’ prioritisation).
021
Geert DC @geertnmdc.bsky.social · 23/03/2026
Grid operators should reward such grid users, e.g. by moving them up the grid connection queue. Regulators urgently need to enable this by creating the framework for grid operators to move away from ‘first come, first served’.

At an undetermined point in the future, the Commission intends to establish requirements that align uni- + bidirectional charging capabilities with relevant grid codes and communication protocols, as is already required for charging infrastructure. single-market-economy.ec.europa.eu/publications...
As battery electric vehicle's technology is evolving at a fast pace and the penetration of electric vehicles on the market is increasing, interoperability between vehicles, the charging infrastructure and the electricity grid is becoming increasingly critical. A harmonised approach to interoperability - at EU level - is essential to avoid fragmentation of certain technical requirements which are currently being developed outside of the vehicle type-approval framework, notably as regards the implementation of the revised Network Codes DDC 2.0 - Regulation (EU) 2016/138819 and RfG 2.0 Regulation (EU) 2016/6312°). Therefore, to ensure battery electric vehicles' harmonised capabilities and enable interoperable vehicle-to-grid (V2G) services, these vehicles will need to meet certain technical requirements. For these reasons an empowerment to the Commission should be established within the Regulation (EU) 2018/85821

Let’s see whether the road sector with fuel credits will function as a proper lead market for efuels. OEMs will find that there are cheaper compliance options. Call me sceptical that this will support the development of efuels for aviation and shipping. Waste biofuels will be cheaper.
