Allan’s electorate of Bendigo East has one of the highest proportions of licensed duck hunters in any Labor-held seat, with 543 people holding licences in 2023 – the equivalent of 1 per cent of voters - The Age

Will DEECA act to protect the 22 brolgas on Lake Cooper? Or will they say there is no point because previously it took them 17 days to close a wetland to duck shooting and there are only 14 days left of the season?

She could have stopped animal cruelty and she chose not to. May she continually be reminded of that.

It is International Day for Biodiversity. ‘Acting locally for global impact’ is this year’s theme and it highlights the importance of continuing to show up for our native waterbirds, particularly during the duck shooting season.

He’s only sorry that he got caught.

Game Management Authority will probably give this man a ‘reduce wounding’ prize pack for using his boat to flush up birds, shooting from a moving boat and failing to ‘dispatch’ the birds immediately. Instead of waiting for ducks, he hooned around the lake on his boat, forcing birds into his gun.

Rescuers returned to Lake Tooliorook last weekend, where there had previously been thousands of native birds, incl 3 threatened duck species. This should have been enough to get the lake closed to shooting. Now theres just a handful of these ducks left. Not good enough @victorianlabor.bsky.social

Four lives taken by duck shooters in Armstrong Creek this morning. Duck shooting must end!

Duck shooters took pot shots at birds in the dark tonight, well after the end of shooting for the night. No one knows what species of birds they are wounding out there. After hours duck shooting is nothing new in Geelong. We report it every year and GMA still never send teams out in the evenings.

What do we expect from a biased government organisation that has duck shooters as employees?

Weird that they would post this 🤨

A wounded duck is currently suffering on the Geelong wetlands. This duck shooter blasted her out of the sky with a shotgun. Injured, she swam for her life into nearby reeds. The shooter did the bare minimum they are legally required to do by making an ‘attempt to retrieve’ for several minutes.

Another month of this shameful state sponsored ‘bloodsport’.

Duck shooting happening in Geelong this morning. While people in the new estate in Armstrong Creek try to enjoy their weekend, ducks are being blown out of the sky nearby. One duck lost their life. Another is likely wounded and may suffer a prolonged death. This is the reality of duck shooting.

A really informative piece by Trevor Pescott in the Geelong Advertiser. Many people have never even heard of a pink eared duck. We think that needs to change. This is a duck that science has shown is in significant long term decline.

Happy 100th birthday to Sir David Attenborough. We appreciate his lifelong dedication to protecting the natural world and speaking up for animals. If only our own government could see the environment through his eyes. Then maybe our waterbirds would be protected, instead of killed for ‘fun’.

Tower Hill will close to duck shooting tomorrow, 17 days after the initial report of 275 threatened blue winged shovelers was submitted. 17 days of an 83 day duck shooting season is 20% of the season.

Heavier body weight. Harder to evade guns. GMA might as well hand the ducks straight to the shooters.

More data lost because Labor prioritises duck shooting over science. In their latest newsletter, Corangamite Catchment Management Authority have issued a warning to their citizen scientists to avoid duck shooting areas.

#ProtectOurWildlife This Earth Day, take time to appreciate our incredible biodiversity but also remember that the current Victorian Labor Government continues to allow our precious wildlife to be disturbed and slaughtered by guns. All wildlife should be protected.

At the same time every year, the field nats are locked out of Victoria’s 20,000+ wetlands at dawn and dusk because of duck shooting season. Imagine how much data about our wetlands has not been recorded because Labor prioritises wildlife killing over wildlife watching.

We once had a conversation with a duck shooter in Geelong who said “The brolgas just fly away when they hear the gunshots” and that is exactly the issue. Wildlife shouldn’t be forced to leave their homes just so that 0.28% of the Victorian population can shoot native ducks.
