I usually avoid found-footage films because so many abandon basic rationale and logic just to stretch the gimmick. Yet, after hearing how The Poughkeepsie Tapes blends a mockumentary style with its fo...

It was enjoyable enough—though I could have lived without 25 minutes of office politics at the start of a virus film—but I don't quite get the over-the-top gushing on Letterboxd. Honestly, the only re...

If a film is named after or even tangentially related to photography or pizza, I have to watch it. I assume it’s a quirk of my photographer brain or the bidding of the photography gods. Much like Holl...

I don’t know how I was unaware of this remake, but I was until stumbling upon it on Tubi. A bloody, brutal, fun remake. It’s not so far removed from the original that it may as well be a new franchise...

A somewhat interesting premise, a fairly mediocre film. Visually it looked quite good though. Having seen who the director was since I watched the film, I can’t say I’m all that surprised. A photograp...

A fairly solid slasher that’s often overlooked because of the big names of the early '80s slasher boom. Whilst people tend to pass it over in favour of those big players, it in fact successfully chann...

Considering the prominence of Robert Englund on the promotional material, I was pissed to find his involvement was merely a cameo during the opening scenes. I’d hoped he was going to be the Pied Piper...

Getting rat-arsed to activate her brain is a fun, fresh—to me at least—hook for a comedy slasher. The rest of the film doesn't do anything all that groundbreaking, but what it does, it does well.

The ability to suspend disbelief did quite a bit of heavy lifting to set up the plot of the film—which was a bit frustrating as a later revelation could have been woven into the beginning to fix the l...

The poster intrigued me enough to watch it, the kills were ridiculous and gloriously gruesome, and the one-hour runtime made for a quick watch, but overall the film was poor. It was especially let dow...

I saw Tobin Bell and Lin Shaye and figured it had to be good… …I made the wrong call. In an irony that pleases me more than it should, the best way I can think to describe the film is that it feels as...

A wonderfully absurd and entertaining take on the zom-com subgenre. It’s chaotic, bloody, and—to the best of my knowledge as a Brit who’s never been—unapologetically Australian. It also manages to bal...

The boom mic was in so many scenes it really should be listed as a cast member. The plot was paper-thin even by comedy horror/slasher standards, the writing was dreadful, and the acting was terrible—a...

He's a terrible host... a one course meal!

The idea of having Nicolas Cage not say a single word for an entire film has to have started life as a bet. It's an utterly ridiculous film, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Having suffered the agony of watching the first, I figured I'd get the pain of the sequel over with quickly. To my surprise, it's much better than its predecessor. However, like its predecessor, it su...

I watched for free on Tubi, and I still think the price was too high! I can be very forgiving and can appreciate—or even love—a shit film, as long as it's evident that care and love went into making i...

I sometimes find myself watching a film just because it’s tagged as "leaving Netflix soon". Sometimes this leads to me watching something really good; other times, it’s an absolute disaster. Out of pu...

In the early 2000s, the horror genre was a bit all over the place. Ghosts killed people 48 hours after they visited a website (presumably so...

I am aware that, after investigations, it was found she didn't cheat her way into the Olympics, it was simply that she got incredibly lucky that the Olympic level dancers couldn't get to qualifying ev...

By far the best of the A Quiet Place films I've seen. It's the only one I've seen, but still. Based entirely on my old cat, I am a little surprised that Frodo didn't slap the face off the creatures th...
