I'm not sure if it was more caring about reputation or that folks found the dirty laundry much less often. I'm not sure where the biggest break from "good products from a trusted company" to "soak the customers for every penny and make them buy again when the POS product breaks" happened.

The most obscene term at tech companies is "Minimum Viable Product." (MVP) It pushes something out the door as fast as possible to start bringing in revenue. All of the quality, infrastructure resilience, security, etc is skipped or at least skimped on. The "later" to do that work never comes.

Yup. I've observed that from my initial testing. It will be interesting to see how the "hidden node problem" is addressed over time and in different scenarios. (ie - the "let's put nodes on mountain tops" case)
