While I paraphrased it a little, someone I follow on tumblr received essentially this message as an anonymous ask. Their response was basically, "my grandpa and dad both died this year, I lost my job, my rent went up, and I might be experiencing kidney failure."

We hired a new employee and we were going around a circle introducing ourselves and I tried to be proactive and set the precedent for stating pronouns before it got to the gaggle of nonbinary ducklings that is my team. ... I got my own pronouns wrong.

How am I supposed to process my grief when the people I'm grieving are still alive and lying about me? How do I integrate acceptance over losing friends instead of holding onto anger that those friends wanted to lose me?

I want so badly for them to just acknowledge how and that they hurt me. They can be upset with me for my actions, but I'm just.. I'm so so angry they won't even accept their roll in how things played out. This relationship involved more than one person and it took more than one to break it.

I am realizing that the anger I feel at being mistreated is a defense mechanism against feeling sad. It feels safer to be angry at someone who chose to hurt me than to accept that they just didn't love me enough to care when they did. Rarely helpful in the moment though though.
