Whenever I see early '00s comics now, one of my first thoughts is always "man we all had such tiny and low-rez monitors back then."

The upshot of it all is that a song can have a billion streams on Spotify, but if you don't use that platform, or even if you do but have curated a different algorithm, you can be completely oblivious to it. Pop culture, and especially music, is the most silo'd it's ever been.

Plus with charts now calculated based listens rather than record sales, hit songs are stickier, especially because it introduces a feedback effect on Spotify where if a song is popular, Spotify plays it to more people on playlists, and those plays keep it in the charts, so it gets played more...

It's not even a left v right thing in this case, the divide is just between people who listen to top40 radio / country radio / automaticly generated spotify playlists vs. people who don't.

It's really funny to me that Disney is obsessed with branding the main-line Star Wars films as "The Skywalker Saga" but they killed off all of the Skywalkers and snuffed out their bloodline in their first attempt at continuing the story.

They also look off in a way where it's obvious no one actually LOOKED at them before printing and said "hmm maybe let's try that one again". Like this place in Paris I went to where the menu had gravel-and-non-euclidean-ham-topped pizza with side pistachios.

Extremely minor thing that unreasonably annoys me: On youtube, the line at the top of the summary snippet that says how long ago a video was published rounds *down* to the nearest year, so a video published 3 years and 360 days ago says "3 years ago" until you expand it.

Air Canada in-flight roundup: Blackberry (2023) which I watched on the way to France is probably the best (certainly funnest) movie I’ve seen this year. Watched Bugonia and Weapons on the way back, which both start out with compelling premises but fall apart when you find out what genre the film is.
