Returned from early vote in the midterms this morning and my video surveillance caught this photo of me, kind of capturing my emotion on completing this act of citizenship at this dire time in the history of the Republic:

“[T]he meaning of a sentence may be more than that of the separate words, as a melody is more than the notes” [Helvering v. Gregory, 69 F. 2d 809, 810–11 (1934) cited by Stephen Breyer in "Active Liberty: Interpreting Our Democratic Constitution" Nov. 17-19, 2004 Tanner Lectures at Harvard]

Yet another outrageous misrepresentation of reality by "science" reporters: AI tool is trained to match patterns of brain waves to simple images observed, e.g., a banana. They then claim will eventually read inner thoughts (laughing as I write). www.technologyreview.com/2026/10/01/1...

An AI “mind-reading” tool can reconstruct what you’re looking at from a brain scan
Scientists hope it could be used to reconstruct a person’s inner thoughts, mental images, or even dreams.

Watched UFC fights last night on CBS, including Natália Silva beating Wang Cong to win UFC Women's Flyweight Championship belt. Not a fan of women fighting generally, but Silva was fun to watch, with her twitchy live-wire taekwondo style with occasional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu grapple.

Dr. John Ferguson, MD objects to a proposal to license autonomous AI parrots as credentialled physician-like entities, noting software has no moral agency, accountability or ability to refuse unsafe action. NOHARM reported 22% of AI recommendations cause severe harm, despite competency on USMLE.

"The aspiration to truth is more precious than its assured possession," a statement by Lessing that Einstein found poignant towards the end (having spent decades in futile effort to unite GR and QM). [I spent 3 hrs this morning locating “Eine Duplik” and translating from German relevant portion.]

Surfed from NFL to VMAs catching Taylor's "Patient Zero" (my first exposure to her voice; liked it and the video, though odd theme considering recent marriage) and Kacey Musgraves nice cover of Parton's "Will Always Love You" (good song ruined by Whitney screaming years ago), with my ad hoc harmony.

Got 0.3 ml of Comirnaty 2026-27 COVID-19 Vaccine, mRNA yesterday morning. Ran low fever afterwards and every orthopedic injury from the last 50 years of so complained, but feeling better somewhat now. Strategy is to avoid a lingering death if possible ("isn't death so much as the dying I fear").

Right Navigation Camera onboard NASA Mars rover Curiosity on 2023-08-20 22:27:46 UTC caught this object on the horizon, though it wasn't there in a shot taken 13 seconds earlier. Resembles the many UFO shots of flying disks since the 50's (appears to be taking off at high rate of speed).
Enlarged crop from NASA Mars photo https___mars.nasa.gov_msl-raw-images_proj_msl_redops_ods_surface_sol_03924_opgs_edr_ncam_NRB_745839057EDR_S1031528NCAM00594M_.JPG
This image was taken by Right Navigation Camera onboard NASA's Mars rover Curiosity on Sol 3924 (2023-08-20 22:27 UTC).
The 12-bit ADC CCD camera resolution is 1024 x 1024. The object is then roughly 2 pixels across on its vertical axis and maybe 12 pixels across widest line at top. NASA explains it is a cosmic ray artifact, though those typically show as points or worm-like irreg. scrawls. It appears to be some kind of craft leaving the Martian surface.

Thinking about antinomy of the liar recently, i.e., the sentence "I am lying" uttered by a liar (he is therefore telling the truth, but that contradicts his nature). Alfred Tarski used an approach similar to Kurt Gödel (incompleteness theorems 1930), demanding discuss truth in a metalanguage.
