Sure and not saying will be easy. Not totally convinced it will even happen. Point is the debate has to be started somewhere and last week felt like the biggest recalibration on this topic there has been so far in having a PM not afraid to call it out as a nonsense.

Sure But there are often "mechanic sucks through teeth" vibes on it Maybe because close up view others don't have But that can often miss a strategic point If case made in UK for EU(AB 1st PM since 2016 to argue) then things may happen Brexiters didn't fret at details of challenges b4 leaving

Whether one likes it or not, people understand immigration better than in 2016 and I think would generally prefer more EU immigration than non EU. Plus boomers can't as easily retire to Spain. Sure fom may be a challenge but don't think as big a deal as folk make out.

Honestly - really doubt will be a thing. Raised constantly - aside from UK not wanting it, cannot see France and Germany would want UK in the euro. Pretty sure have heard Barnier say UK wouldn't need to be in euro to rejoin. Easy trope for Brexiters/sceptics to raise any time rejoin mentioned

Top 3 most influential countries in EU on this imo along with France and Germany. Shares a land border with UK and all hassle that has brought, no. 6 trading partner as well as has worked very well & pragmatically with UK when a member

Would rephrase this slightly. They are persuaded to want this stuff.. Without relative constant in terms of media consumption (ie bbc & itv UK news up to 90s) & immeasurable means of obtaining medua in this Internet age, becoming clearer that short of a catastrophic event(s) issue here to stay

What is the Irish take on this measure? Up there with being the most important country in relation to this topic - why left out?:)

Yes but a very key point is there has been no PM like Burnham who has been willing to articulate a narrative that changes the arguement. There is a chance he does...

Wow - some prediction when lots water would need pass under the bridge between now & then Is this some sort of protection mechanism you employ to manage own expectations? Have 0 idea whats going to happen What do know is leaving EU increasingly understood to have been disadvantagous to UK

This. Just heard Lucy Powell on the radio this morning prescribing why electorate annoyed. Instead of going on about the abstract and bring attention to things that may or may not be the case, government needs to drive narrative and stop navel gazing

I have blamed plenty of things on brexit but not sure on this occasion we can. Think it is due to a general governmental requirement to tighten border controls.

It's a good opportunity for Tories. Differentiator from reform etc. It's important. But key thing is she has said no fom so gives cover. That said think with Brits wanting fom themselves (brexity retirees etc) and prospect of more euro immigration v non euro immigration which will be preferred
000
gcjea.bsky.social @gcjea.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Indeed.. but at least has said she want SM & saying a good thing. Thats progress imo Hopefully start of pitch rolling on right. FOM should be less of an issue than it was as enables Brits retire to EU & votesmore aware that probably makes more sense to get Euro v non Euro migration

But...troubling rw maj. & range of madness - from Tories to reform to restore along with 70% of press in step & unsavoury sm giants spewing disruptive UK rhetoric. Where r moderate centre right? Good lab bounce but v brittle Many pro EU folk will vote rw which depresses given their current state

Chippy response given you misunderstood Never clear to British voters what Brexit would mean & type of "frameworks" govt. would persue or even tarrif free up until point of deal. No_deal_a_thing_remember? Can argue toss on esoteric points but that was the reality BTW - I_am_not_British

Disagree. It's all old hat now but a friendly reminder The Chequers deal May pulled together didn't go through. Then there was the indicative voting sessions in parliament for differing options - none of which got a majority

Respectively - totaly disagree.. Noone knew what leave meant until just before Christmas 2020 - nearly 5 years after the actual referendum to leave. Polling expressing general sentiment on desire for rejoining in the country & should be one of many signs to go further on closer alignment with EU

When people go away - they tend to be less frugal than in day to day life. Would be really surprised this is the literal impact to local economies

Really - never have I heard someone somewhere complain about tourist tax when going away. In my experience its marginal and ubiquitous across Europe.

Not heard a PM prescribe the main causes (not all) of problems of Britain this well ever. He is rolling the pitch for changes (which will be a huge challenge to deliver). This country needs to wean itself off rw madness. Needs care it doesn't go the other way.

Are there ideas that could help mitigate? Not against using farmland but ideally other areas may help mitigate. Car port covers been mentioned & dropped by govt. not sure exactly why. What about mandating all warehouses to have solar on roofs unless specific reasons why not possible...?
