When my now 11 yo was 3, more than once I gave her exactly what she asked for and she said, "Oh, thank you mom!" then immediately threw herself on the ground crying because apparently, it was not at all what she wanted 🫠 Toddlers wake up every day and choose savagery.

When ARCS for my 2nd book went out, there were 2 early reviews that both said something like "it reminded me of a Hallmark movie" - one was a 5 star review, the other was a 1 star review. 🤷‍♀️ Can't please everyone.

I'm honestly just thrilled I wrote anything new. I've had ideas knocking at the door for a long time but wasn't able to dedicate the headspace & emotional energy to do anything about it. A couple weeks ago the compulsion was so strong I drug myself from bed around midnight to put pen to paper.

I think I'm more about scenes when I first start out. Later on, as the story shapes and grows, I shift to thinking in terms of acts.

It's a rough start! Hard to carve out time for writing between work and kids activities and sickness and so on. Not to mention I'm also trying to dedicate time to marketing my existing books. But....writing anything at all after such a long dry spell feels good! :)

14yo was venting about mean kids are school. I suggested keeping a list of names - all the people who treat him badly. Whenever he's writing a story and needs a name for a villain, he's got a list of great options. Passing along important lessons over here.
