The world does not need billionaires. Tax them out of existence.

Liz Truss?!? Time to go.

I agree... but a country that can elect and reelect Trump is not a country that can be relied upon, regardless of whether or not Trump's policies are supported by a majority of US citizens.

Another example of imperial hangover, I fear. You see the same thing in foreign policy since WWII... with Brexit just being the biggest recent example of a long string of delusional decisions and non-decisions.

I understand how batteries save gas... under normal circumstances. But after several consecutive days of low renewable energy production, any economically reasonable amount of battery storage is going to be exhausted and we'll need peak consumption to be covered by power plants.

Don't you still need the peak generation capacity in reserve for that string of foggy, cloudy, windless days in winter?

How any European country can buy weapons from the US going forward is beyond me. You would have to be truly stupid to do so.

Wake up and smell the coffee! NATO is dead, has been dead for a while, and will remain so as long as Trump is in power or MAGA Republicans have the power to block funding or policy.

As you reap, so shall you sow. When mainstream media stopped telling people what was true and false, and instead became platforms where both sides would make their case, even if one side was dishonest, they set themselves on the path to perdition.

Looks to me that the Senate Democratic caucus has just agreed to share blame for everything that Trump does in exchange for… nothing. Primary them. Primary every single one that does not call for a vote to remove Schumer as Minority Leader within the next 7 days.

There are plenty of moderate Dems who would not have voted for a Republican candidate if that was the only alternative to Mamdani. Cuomo was not seen as a Republican, regardless of Trump's endorsement.
1171
gbradley.bsky.social @gbradley.bsky.social · 05/11/2025
No, it is wrong. Mamdani won in a 3 way race against a moderate Democrat and a Republican. Not comparable with the races in NJ or VA. Ask yourself: how would Mamdani have done against the Republican candidate (who got 27% in the previous election) in a head to head?

The school was St Joseph's in Hannover, PA. And the irony is that Saint Joseph is the patron saint of, among other things, social justice and immigrants.

"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose..." -- Janis Joplin. Seems to me that, with the exception of those marching in No Kings protests, America is no longer the land of the Free. It's the land of the too rich or comfortable to be brave.

Downgrade NATO to a talking shop... as an organisation predicated upon US military support it's dead anyway. Use the money and people saved to create ETO... and make sure that Hungary and Slovakia are kept out!

Actually the date, at least for the purposes of long term planning, was January 20, 2017. Any country that could elect Donald Trump once was no longer reliable.

The fundamental ideal of the EU, the principle from which all others stem, is that borders should not be changed by force. If the EU acquiesces to this in Ukraine, it undercuts its own raison d'être.

Talk to everyone you know in the US military. How they react when they are told to either shoot at protesters, or stay in barracks while ICE shoots them, is the key to a quick and relatively unbloody return to democracy... or not.

Frankly, nobody needs more than a billion dollars. However, as a compromise, the following plan for all billionaires: 90% tax rate on all income and gains, 2% annual wealth tax, annual audit, and draconian punishments for tax evasion and expatriation. Call it The Fair Deal.

"Many Republicans agree that the legacy trade system disadvantages the United States—particularly with foreign VATs and higher tariffs on U.S. goods." So, economically illiterate (VAT is paid by every producer, domestic and foreign) but nevertheless an insightful Republican. Oh dear.

"If it continues unchecked, it will turn the last two years of Trump’s presidency into a grinding parade of congressional investigations and legal scrutiny"... sounds like s/he is conceding at least the House, because there is no chance that it will not continue unchecked.

Surely the points of this action are to a) scare away foreign students, and b) give a green light to ICE and border personnel to arrest international students. The legality... and whether or not it has been blocked by the courts... is irrelevant.

May not have to be as large as it currently seems. The previous government has already passed a budget reduction and there are various one-offs that are not expected to reoccur. Also Romania's total debt is still low. See here for details: www.romania-insider.com/romania-publ...

These two facts (no rebels on debt brake change, rebels now) suggest that this is not about policy, it's about Merz: some people just don't like him. The implications for policy are therefore probably not as grave as initial reactions fear.
