He has done this multiple times and I refuse to grow numb to it. This attitude exists because others allow and accept it. He has no conscience, don’t let the rest of them off the hook.

I’m generally over informed (to my mental detriment) and have no idea who he is, outside of seeing his name pop up here repeatedly. The media is addicted to Republican content generation. My main source of news is reading the Financial Times and I don’t remember seeing it covered as a thing.

This is his nod to the manage by spreadsheet class, who are constantly stymied by those with knowledge and experience. Remove leverage and the names next to those numbers start to matter a whole lot less.

Same. That friendly was brutal after 20 mins or so. The USMNT are perpetual underdogs, not sure what people were thinking. Hullabaloo aside. They still have MLS goaltenders for crying out loud!

Disregarding the people involved is the quickest path to torching that institutional and tribal knowledge. The very thing you are buying to exploit! I say this as a CTO, who gets way too up his own ass about the tech side of things (and how “I could totally build this in a weekend” yada yada).

The problem with most [tech] acquisitions. The focus on buying a purely tangible asset instead of understanding that all of that investment money over the years has hopefully resulted in domain knowledge, contacts, relationships, customer insights, etc. You know, the actual business.

I canceled sometime during the 2024 election. It was crystal clear what they were doing and that they had abandoned any pretense.

This is what reverberated in my head while reading Yuval Noah Harari’s Nexus, particularly every time he said the “naive theory of information”. I really believed the free movement of ideas and information would lead to freedom, prosperity, and progress. How naive indeed. Just more wealth capture.

The entire billionaire (and whatever class is near enough) tax avoidance scheme is based on living off of money borrowed against stocks. If those crash, that whole system comes down. They will all fight to keep it afloat (and rising). Crashing the dollar as collateral doesn’t hurt them either.

I could go with this, where Maxwell is spooked by all the talk about the 25th and how bad the Iran situation has been messed up and thinks her leverage in the White House is on short time. I’d put my money on other actors though, since this week probably spooked enough people into action

Endorsing state sponsored mass murder and suffering or ignoring something that doesn’t personally affect you. The modern world is full of difficult choices.

These clowns. But in the brief amount of time I shake my head and reflect on how this is allowed to happen at all, I’m snapped back into reality that grifters and billionaires are robbing us blind as a result of this ruse. They aren’t dumb at all. Just shameless.

Wild! Yeah, I think my number was definitely 5-6 digits. My grandma was on BBS’s at that time, haha. It’s where she got all her games. I didn’t enter cyberspace until around 94 on CompuServe. I had to make a case to my mom for a subscription service (scary!) and it was the only unlimited-ish one.

What year did you get yours? I was more into mIRC and Usenet, but probably got my number in 97, maybe early 98. It felt pretty low though. It’s buried on a decaying hard drive somewhere.

But I said that wearing the hat of a “fintech exec”. As a citizen and human being, we are no where near prepared for a world where we start axing 40% of our workforce and think anything resembling our current standard of living or social structure will survive. The billionaires are delusional there.

James Gaythwaite @gaythwaite.blog · 27/02/2026
I’ll also add, as a “fintech guy”, now is absolutely the time to make this bet. The government is gutting consumer protections and regulatory oversight. Fintech is all about finding margin within that bureaucracy, preferably with tech. If you’re gonna be sloppy with AI for a while, now is the time.

I worked at Square nine years ago, which is an absolute lifetime ago since the company was like 400 when I joined. This email reads like the Jack that I worked under, respected, and look back upon fondly. Say what you want about him, and he is a perma-billionaire, but I think this is genuine.

James Gaythwaite @gaythwaite.blog · 20/02/2026
I worked at Square for a hot minute when it was much, much smaller. I disagree that Jack isn’t talented. But the real mistake was letting Sarah Friar leave instead of become CEO while he was playing around with bitcoin. Once it hit established corp mode, he should have hit the exit, if not before.

James Gaythwaite @gaythwaite.blog · 12/02/2026
Contrast this performance with the Jack Smith testimony. One has no current role in government (and therefore no ability to affect change), was under a bizarre gag order for the information being discussed, yet answered everything to the best of his ability (clear yes/no). And then there was this.

I used to say the same thing. Conservative roots go back to those with a desire to be under the crown, not the people. Rooted in corruption. Not surprising that a number of these oligarchs are modern day monarchists. Make them wear it like a scarlet letter. It’s a movement that deserves to die.

Still kind of shocked they even took it this far, TBH. I assumed it was going to land in script rewrite purgatory once the bribery check cleared. It shows that even they really live in such a brain rot bubble that the thing was even made, let alone screened publicly.

Pretty disgusting, but plenty of leaders know anyone that throws a true counterpunch will be blamed for starting the fight. It’s very clear he views his purpose is to ensure Minnesota doesn’t shoulder that “blame”. I’m not sure who the leaders for our time will actually be in the end.

There is also a twist on a) that they call the “no scalps policy”. No matter the fuckup, they will not allow external calls for removal to win at all costs. They have been very successful thus for at just saying “neener neener” when needed and then flood the zone with another distraction.

Seeing them successfully not seat Representative Grijalva for as long as they did and basically shrug off the Epstein transparency act highlights that stifling the democratic process, out in the open, doesn’t even have to be complex or sophisticated. Both of these techniques will be used again.

Agreed. Take the alternative to the American people everywhere, make it crystal clear who’s blocking reforms and the repercussions that result, and don’t stop until you penetrate the echo chamber of talking points, memes, and lies that is insulating the bulk of Congress from acting within morality

My parents are both VA nurses. I am having a hard time sitting here and waiting for the inevitable smear campaign of an innocent and most likely compassionate person to begin. One can only sense even darker days lie ahead for all of us. My support is with those in #Minneapolis

It’s foolish to engage this based on history, sigh, but statements like this, for any President, of any party, should require a clear and thorough explanation before the American people. This was not an election issue and it’s clearly unpopular by any objective polling mechanism. Yelling at clouds

Two problems with this comparison. Because of the gutting and mismanagement of FEMA, he will have his own Katrina, just a matter of when. Two, the Bush regime went on autopilot after that because they had no support. He still has Congressional support and is making changes despite unpopularity.

I don’t think it’s a troll. I think it’s a nice huge island for billionaire network states and has military strategic implications. Also nicely serving as the path of least resistance for getting out of NATO, of which there was congressional chatter against when mentioned in direct terms.
