Now that ice caves are the first Minecraft cave biome that removes glow lichen, I think the deep dark should be the same way. The deep dark should be lifeless other than sculk to emphasize how dangerous it is: discord.com/channels/113...

If Mojang does this, they might as well add fossils to the deep dark as well. The lack of decoration features other than sculk is the only flaw of this biome IMO.

Ice Caves might not be a bad place to add fossils. They're already so uncommon. It'd be fun to see some bones frozen and preserved in the ice. #Minecraft

Personally, I'm more interested in the general style of the biomes. Things like 3D biome generation in vanilla, terrain, varying difficulty and obstacles, etc.

The Sift is relatively likely to be: * Side content * Post-game * An alternate path to the End And unlikely to be: * Required to beat the Ender dragon And I will savor the disappointment from the wrong parts of the Minecraft community... 😈

That would be fitting because the Sift will most likely be side content or post-game content (not mutually exclusive). Minecraft progression always worked better as gathering different items and utilities from various places rather than tying it all under a single progression path.

When discussing Sift "ores," I think more people should consider the idea of a netherite side-grade. A material you upgrade to INSTEAD of netherite. An alternative that gives players a different benefit. Like how netherite doesn't burn and provides knockback resistance. #Minecraft

I haven't gotten that far into the gameplay yet, especially not late-game, but the visual design seems like a downgrade compared to the first game. Specifically environment design. Stuff like different areas feeling less distinct, the deep dark not feeling like it's deep underground, etc.

gaspoweredpick @gaspoweredpick.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
The current deep dark just features sculk almost right away and the cave is already more moody than a normal cave. If the player entered from something like a sinkhole or a quarry, it'd make sense. Otherwise, it should feel like it takes time and effort to find the deep dark once you go underground.

It seems like villages are commonplace in MCD2, so having a village separate the regular caves and the deep dark while the player is forced to explore both would fit the second game's world design, still feel cinematic like most of the first game's areas, and the deep dark would actually be deep.

gaspoweredpick @gaspoweredpick.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
If MCD2 had MCD1 environment design, the deep dark would be lead by a good stretch of regular cave (biomes), then a village deep in a ravine, then the deep dark would slowly creep up along with its structures. The deep dark in Minecraft Dungeons 2 doesn't feel deep underground is what I'm saying.

hate how people are judging the sift despite the fact we barely saw anything for it in vanilla, we actually have no clue what's coming and I think that's exciting

I honestly hope that the Sift receives some of its own material rather than being perfectly derivative of MCD, same for the End update. I do believe many mobs from MCD's Sift will come to the regular game with their own functionality.

What if you could craft a bell with echo shards to create a resonating bell, revealing monsters in its radius but also provoking them towards the nearest player? Considering that new Minecraft features often accomodate automation, I think this would be fair while still appealing to casual players.

The Sift might be another example of Minecraft players not getting exactly what they want yet. 1.14 and 1.16 weren't the cave update, though all was basically forgiven when they turned out to be substantial updates. The Sift could be the same situation, especially with how long it was developed.

One of the best aspects of Minecraft is what you can explore or stumble into with minimal restrictions, along with how your arsenal changes depending on where you go. However, I think the second part is very mixed in execution and could be improved in many areas, especially the enchanting system.

I don't expect that much more than ice in an ice cave visually, though it has some very welcome gameplay dynamics for a new cave biome.

Hey @jebox.bsky.social! There's been a lot of talk around this Dungeons II mob and how it shares some similarities with the old Mob C (Great Hunger) concept. Was this an intentional design decision or a coincidence of the final design? Would be interesting to know for historical reasons. Thanks!

The use of the word "adventure" implies features like the Abandoned Camp and Straw Bed are in fact part of that long-term "adventure" initiative Agnes spoke about. Just interesting to know to be able to keep track of the progress of the initiative. #Minecraft

Caves & Cliffs was announced at least a few years after the suggestion for a cave update became popular. I anticipate it'll take a couple/few years before the next dimension, no matter how high priority it is.

One thing about Minecraft Dungeons 2 I'm not too sure about is the shield system. It doesn't seem like they'll be much of a factor in regular gameplay. That would be the third game in the franchise with overly simplistic shields. Hoping they get updated before the 3rd MCD game, one way or another.

While being able to track down mountain ranges / ancient cities is great, it seems wrong that abandoned campsites are the only way to get a map for them. I think they should appear sometimes in dungeons and mineshafts as well, encouraging underground exploration. #Minecraft

It'd make sense for the End to have some kind of pollinator. Bees can already pollinate chorus plants, but don't actually live there.

You can find a cow with 3 calves in Minecraft 26.2 by using the seed -7076025784263504373 and going to the coordinates 6845 86 -6971. This must be way rarer than a pink sheep!

Okay, so like, there is an excessive amount of fallen logs in the Dappled Forest. They're crossing each other, stacking on top of one another, and just overall kind of looking a little messy. Mojang please lower the rates, it feels like the forest is dying. #Minecraft

Well there is one thing. I don't like that the command and orbs are called "xp" for enchanting power. I don't like "experience" as a name for a resource. I try to get everyone to refer to it as "enchanting power" or "enchanting levels" instead, but the data names are hard coded.

Minecraft Dungeons II actually has a jumping mechanic, which will be used to counter certain attacks as briefly shown in the trailer. I think this could dramatically improve boss fights, perhaps along with navigation and regular combat as well?

that's because of some overlooked exceptions like multiplayer where you meticulously plan the team's synergies, combat tactics, and absolutely obliterate enemies if you lead well. And sometimes, people act like the game has no depth at all while missing some great synergies in singleplayer. (2/2)

I don't think it's that hot of a take to say that MCD is simple. That's basically every criticism of the game other than "did we really need this" in almost every comment or video I've seen critiquing the game. The difference with me is that I don't necessarily think that's an issue, and... (1/2)

Hot take about Minecraft Dungeons II, but I'm fine with it if it's just a better and more interesting version of the original. I honestly think the first game is the epitome of a game that is very good but simplistic, and can be expanded upon in a new game using a similar but more complex formula.
