Perfectly Clear partners with IMG.LY for automatic image correction
Perfectly Clear announced it is teaming up with IMG.LY to bring automatic, one-click image enhancement directly into IMG.LY’s CE.SDK. The result: exposure, contrast, color, tint, skin tones, sharpening, and noise reduction, all corrected in a single pass, no sliders required, the company said. IMG.LY builds CE.SDK, a creative editor SDK and API that companies use to add photo, video, and design editing to their own products. Instead of building an editor from scratch, teams drop in CE.SDK and get a fully functional front-end, ready to customize. It is used across print, e-commerce, digital asset management, and social platforms.

CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor shows 12th month of sales growth in September
Retail sales rose for the 12th straight month in September even as gas prices put pressure on shoppers’ budgets, according to the CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor, powered by Affinity Solutions, released by the National Retail Federation. “Retail sales rose again last month as consumers continued to spend following a solid back-to-school shopping season,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. “Households remain budget conscious, concentrating on everyday essentials even as higher gasoline prices continue to absorb a larger share of family budgets. Retailers continued to prioritize affordability, leaning on promotions and value pricing to keep everyday products within reach.”

NRF: Import cargo’s extended peak season wrapping up
This year’s drawn-out peak shipping season appears to finally be ending, with import volume at the nation’s major container ports starting to slow down compared with persistent high numbers over the summer, according to the Global Port Tracker report released today by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates. “Even with any fluctuations in final data, we’re likely past the busiest part of the year,” NRF Vice President for Supply Chain and Customs Policy Jonathan Gold said. “The truth is that the peak season started early and was stretched out through the summer and early fall, with the difference from month to month often amounting to little more than a rounding error.

Local-First AI For Video Libraries, with Dr. Henry Kang
Your computer is packed with stories you cannot find. Video clips named DJI003, endless B-roll, meeting recordings, marketing footage, client projects, school photography archives, and personal travel memories all pile up until searching feels impossible. Gary Pageau of The Dead Pixels Society sits down with Dr. Henry Kang, founder and CEO of Clipto.AI, to talk about a different approach: Local-first AI that indexes and understands your media on your own machine, so you can search your library in plain English without uploading terabytes to the cloud. He digs into the real advantages of on-device AI for content creators and businesses, including faster workflows, no upload waiting, fewer cloud token costs, and a much cleaner privacy posture for sensitive work under NDA.

Laowa announced the ACRIS 35mm f/2.8 1X AF Macro APO lens, its =first full-frame autofocus 35mm lens featuring true 1:1 life-size magnification. Engineered for photographers who demand absolute precision where every micron counts, the ACRIS 35mm combines true macro magnification with an environmental wide-angle perspective, a fast f/2.8 aperture, hybrid focusing control, and an advanced Apochromatic (APO) optical design, the company claims.= Unlike conventional close-up lenses that stop at 0.5X, the ACRIS 35mm f/2.8 captures subjects at full 1:1 scale with extraordinary detail. While traditional telephoto macro lenses (such as 90mm or 180mm) isolate subjects by completely eliminating background context, the 35mm focal length preserves a natural field of view.

From Swamp Mode To Systems That Sell, with Kenneth Kollasch
Most businesses fail to grow for a simple reason: The owner is stuck selling the obvious thing, while the customer is buying something deeper. When Kenneth Kollasch tells us what it’s like to grow up inside a multi-generational ballroom and Latin dance studio, the lesson lands fast. Dance lessons were never just about steps. They were about confidence, relationships, identity, and feeling at home in a room full of people. That “hidden product” idea maps directly to the photo imaging world too, where prints and gear are really about memories and self expression.

Imagen launches Intelligent Studio adaptive workspace
Imagen launched its newest update, featuring Intelligent Studio, an adaptive post-production workspace, removes that order entirely. Photographers can cull first, start editing before making final selections, pull together a client preview from a handful of key moments, or move between all three as a project develops. At the core of the new version is an editor that brings full manual editing directly into Imagen for the first time. Photographers can work with RAW and JPEG files, with the same range of manual control they'd expect from a dedicated editing program: tone and color, detail and clarity, lens and perspective corrections, and creative finishing touches.

GelatoConnect and the Customer Led Future of Print
For Henrik Müller-Hansen, the future of printing starts with a deceptively simple question: Who is the business built around, the machine or the customer? In an interview with The Dead Pixels Society, the Gelato founder and CEO described a market moving away from production organized around specific equipment and toward a software-driven model of production on demand. “I think that the industry consists of two sides in a marketplace,” Müller-Hansen said. “You have the creators and the consumers, and you have the producers.” GelatoConnect, he said, aims to be the “glue” connecting creators and makers, reducing friction through software.

PRO Convention continues reshaping of camera retail
The Photographic Research Organization (PRO) held its annual fall convention last week at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, AZ. As a private buying group, the happenings at the meeting are not made public; The Dead Pixels Society attends as a guest. As a result, a detailed show report is not done. There are, however, several trends that have become apparent after attending years of events. Camera dealers are adapting to a market in which growth no longer depends on simply stocking the latest bodies and lenses. Presentations at the PRO convention showed retailers expanding through film services, used equipment, education, digital tools, inclusive marketing, and stronger customer relationships.

How Viesus Fixes Photos Before They Print, with Servi Pieters
Your customer doesn’t order a “file” they order a memory, and nothing kills that moment faster than a print that looks worse than the phone screen. We sit down with Servi Pieters, CEO of Viesus, to unpack why modern photo printing faces new traps: HDR smartphone displays, print workflows, heavy social media compression, and low-light computational photography that looks fine on glass but falls apart on paper. Pieters gets specific about what an automatic image enhancement layer actually does inside high-volume labs and print providers. Pieters shares a real-world KPI wake-up call: One company saw complaint rates jump when Viesus was inadvertently disabled, then drop by 58% when it was turned back on.

Kodak didn’t “miss digital.” What really happened is more interesting and a lot more useful if you work in photo printing, photo labs, or photo software. Gary Pageau of The Dead Pixels Society sits down with longtime marketing leader Rocky Bowles to trace the real arc from the film era to early online ordering, and then into the current moment where AI content, social commerce, and collapsing attention spans are rewriting how people buy photo products. Bowles shares what it took to earn consumer trust when the idea of mailing your film to a lab felt risky, and how ProShots tried to connect photographers, labs, and customers online before Facebook normalized sharing.
