Some people here don't seem to have understood the purpose of a political party. It's not the same as a protest movement. It is a vehicle designed to get into government, to change legislation and make a material difference to the lives of people at home and abroad.

Less than 1% of the membership voted for it, many of those online, and yet somehow it is now Green party policy? AFAIK all the party leaders and MPs opposed this motion which was forced through by a tiny number of new members. The Greens need to sort out their policy making mechanism ASAP.

Old school greens need to get behind Zach polanski's messaging. He's linking the cost of living crisis with environmental concerns. This is the route to co-opting the mainstream vote. Which is better than finger wagging and scolding.

Fewer cars are a better solution. And fewer single occupant cars are a higher priority.

The party has always been a magnet for weirdos outcasts and neurodivergent obsessives. Zach has been great at connecting environmental issues with the cost of living concerns of mainstream voters.

The party is a magnet for oddballs, outcasts and neurodivergent obsessives. Gaza is a virtue signal. an opportunity to finger wag and scold which they find too delicious to resist. Zac has been transformative in linking true green issues to mainstream voter concerns. But the kooks are a liability.

Big business excels at extracting wealth via market power and funneling profits to shareholders. Small business keeps capital circulating locally, creating real value and distributing wealth across the community where it belongs. Prosperity isn't just growth; it's distribution.

You’re going to hear a lot about how this crisis is about government borrowing levels. That’s largely bullshit. The cause of the global bond sell-off was investors freaking out about inflation - not governments spending too much money. graceblakeley.substack.com/p/whos-afrai...

Who’s afraid of the bond vigilantes?
This week’s bond sell-off wasn't about government profligacy - it was about war, oil, and inflation. And as ever, it's the global South paying the price.

There are lessons from brexit here. There weren't enough bigots and racists to swing Brexit on their own, they needed to mobilize the left behinds. This story drives a wedge between the grifters and the grifted

Until we force the top end to face real costs and give the bottom end something real to lose, we're just running a slow-motion experiment to see how fast society turns into a battle royale. Until then, keep playing nice—someone has to be the dove. 11/11
000
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Fix 3: Restore the "shadow of the future". People only play fair today if they believe it leads to a better tomorrow. Accessible upward mobility and strong public assets give everyone a genuine stake in keeping the overall collective "pie" growing. 10/11
110
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Fix 2: Make penalties scale proportionally. Flat fines are useless against elite Hawks. Legal fines, regulatory sanctions, and penalties must be calculated as a percentage of overall net worth or global turnover so that Hawkish behavior actually hurts at the top. 9/11
100
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Fix 1: Floor the downside risk. Universal baseline security (housing, healthcare, income safety nets) removes the desperation trap. When people have a secure baseline to protect, the personal cost of taking a Hawkish, law-breaking risk suddenly spikes. 8/11
100
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Appealing to morality won't fix this. In game theory, altruism loses to self-interest every single time. To stop the machine from shaking itself to pieces, we have to fundamentally re-engineer the payoff matrix so that cooperation is the smartest play for everyone. 7/11
110
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Where does that leave the rest of us? As perpetual, miserable Doves. We queue politely, pay our taxes, and feel existential guilt over an unscanned avocado, while watching the ultra-rich hoard the lifeboats and the desperate poke holes in the hull. 6/11
100
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
So society gets hit by a double-whammy of Hawkishness: the desperate are forced into high-risk extraction to survive, while the super-rich engage in high-risk extraction because they're entirely immune to the consequences. 5/11
100
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Meanwhile, at the top, elite "Hawks" play a completely different game. For a billionaire or a giant corporation, a flat fine isn't a deterrent—it’s just a transaction fee. Steal £20m, get fined £2m five years later? That’s not punishment; that’s just taking out a cheap loan. 4/11
100
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Except inequality completely shatters that balance. At the bottom of the pile, if your future is three zero-hours contracts just to afford a damp room, being a rule-following "Dove" isn't noble—it’s self-sabotage. If you've nothing left to lose, the penalty cost drops to zero. 3/11
100
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
The Hawk-Dove model breaks down human strategy simply: • Hawk: Aggressive, self-serving, takes what it wants. • Dove: Fair, peaceful, cooperative. In a healthy society, high penalties for conflict keep the Hawks in check and allow the Doves to thrive. 2/11 *
110
Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
We’ve built a society that functions like a broken arcade game with only two settings: Bastard or Victim. Game theory calls it the Hawk-Dove model, but in reality, high wealth inequality acts as a massive super-fertiliser for sociopathic behaviour at both ends of the ladder. 1/11

People have always been self-centered and rightly so. But thatcherite neoliberism has tricked them to be selfish. People I've lost the idea that being part of a strong team is better for the individual. The British have never been so divided and ruled over.

There's also no suggestion that no case can be made for any large data centres. Just need to reserve those for when we need large capacity in one place. Tailored model on a a local device is more than adequate for normal use. But tech Bros wants us to rent all AI from them. There is another way

Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 21/07/2026
TINA? That's exactly what the tech Bros propaganda want us to think. For many use cases AI is already good enough it needs to get no better. The Chinese have also shown another way. I'm equally suspicious of the Chinese as I am the silicon Valley gangsters.

Gary Clarke @garyclarke.bsky.social · 21/07/2026
Huge data centres are not necessarily the future of AI. It's a model that suits the American tech Bros funding strategy and lobbying. But there is an alternative which is efficiently programmed pre-trained models posted offline on local hardware.

Average UK renter spent 41% of take-home pay on rent. Rocketing costs of energy, water, food, essentials. Real average wage unchanged since 2008. Median take-home pay £26,208. 39% of Briton have £1,000 or less in savings. Can't get economic growth without curbing profiteering, ending poverty.

We need to abolish state-sanctioned poverty
No one is ever born poor. They are condemned to poverty by societal policies which prevent millions from realising their full physical, mental, and intellectual capacities potentialities.

The guy has done such a lot to put this on the agenda. It was totally deflating to watch him demolished by simple challenges with no comebacks at all. Comebacks which I was screaming at the screen. It does feel like a setback. He has a substantial following. He's done them a disservice with this.
