That’s honestly a big bit of childhood magic I kinda miss. Mario 64, mainline Pokémon games or Mystery Dungeon games, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, etc would often take me months to complete and they felt like such giant adventures. Still great games IMO but they def feel smaller than they once did lol

- but man was the DS format great and I’ve missed it ever since LGPE. And yeah in general Gen 4 definitely introduced just a lot of quality of life and mechanics improvements for the series going forward, (though I still miss reusable TMs when playing it lol)

As someone who started with Gen 5, going back to the pre-DS Pokémon games was definitely odd lol, agreed that the dual screens was so good for the series. Nowadays I LOVE the first three gens for their own different reasons to be clear, (I especially often find myself defending Gen 1 to my friends)-

I think as you said I’ll always have a bias towards the original 1990’s design, I grew up on DK64 and the DKC GBA port without even knowing it was related to Mario at all, so I definitely have that bias from childhood, but I am more than comfortable with the new design going forward, it’s still him

I’m honestly impressed how much it’s grown on me as I was initially very iffy on it. I think a lot of it came from my fear that the DK series would become simplified, “Mario-ified” and lose its unique sense of identity, but actually playing Bananza quelled most of those fears and I loved it

For me it depends on what I’m framing really. 90% of the time landscape is better for whatever I’m taking a photo of, (especially as I prioritize how it looks on a desktop or television over a vertically oriented smartphone), but portrait can be useful for well. Portraits, and review photos on eBay

As a kid with two siblings, it was an amazing concept to have a home console that I could keep playing even if my brother or sister wanted the TV. No need to turn off the 360 and switch to my 3DS, just move the display to the gamepad and keep going!

I'm a huge fan of Nuts & Bolts and the Brothers Bear pieces from DKC3, and I also feel like Bayou Boogie and Schoolhouse Harmony go unrecognized compared against other tracks from DKC2. The Isle o' Hags theme from Tooie and the Machine Room theme from Kazooie I also feel are underrated --

That’s so real though lol. I personally really like the Wii U, it has a good library of games, the gamepad is super comfortable, I play all my Wii games on it, and the UI is charming. I get why some people don’t like it, but geez if I say “I think the Wii U was neat” they think I hailed Satan

I honestly really liked the change to black so it’s weird to see the trailer ignore it. Maybe the trailer is early footage? Or it was always just a coloring error (as seems prevalent with this reboot’s promos) and the end product is meant to be green. Who knows, IDEK if Mattel knows lmao

Curious if Grabbed By the Ghoulies would’ve performed better on GameCube given the audience or if the GameCube in general would’ve performed better with Rare developing for it. How Kameo would’ve turned out different and what Rare’s longevity would’ve been by comparison. All pure speculation though

At least it’s safe to say that a mainline DK platformer from Rare was kind of inevitable, unlike Banjo-Threeie on GameCube…..so much as that pains my inner BK fan to say lol. Even though it never would’ve been like the wet dreams of some fans, I am curious what a Nintendo buyout would’ve looked like
