None of your modern life would be here without AI AI is not new It was not invented in 2022 It’s been here for decades and decades Most of the time it was secretly keeping you from dying or killing yourself (see cars) You just never noticed it until it said words to you AI is not a boogey man

There’s literally nothing new about AI in drug development. Folding@home for protein research came out over 20 years ago. Why do people think someone is just throwing prompts at an LLM and screaming “CURE!” It’s like they just learned the letters GMO and said “I don’t want that in my food!”

Even if you get your news from so called (TikTok, IG, whatever) you’re still getting your news from the media. Because someone has to give them the headlines they all repeat verbatim while they cosplay journalist.

Fable actually failed to adapt a prototype module to the standardized and explicit paint by numbers template with stubbed functions and a complete file structure.

Fable is cool and all but why does it need to speak through a thesaurus? “Open dispositions” - just say decisions. There’s no SAT score at the end of the session.

Why is journalism not an apprenticed career? Makes zero sense.

To be clear. I don’t think this is actually going to happen. But surprised it hasn’t hit the wish-casting circuit yet

My whackadoo conspiracy theory on this is Vance waiting for 2 years + 1 day to attempt to 25th so he wouldn’t have to run as a lame duck and then try to position himself as savior of the republic

I don’t think universities are the right answer Community college is my favorite version. More associates degrees. Skilled enough to explore, specialize quickly and start working, at far lower prices As someone who did CCs before college it was my favorite experience. Small classes. Better profs

Trying to find serious conversation about AI that’s not just detractor/nay-sayer. These are important conversations/views just not the only conversations I’m looking for Tried looking at start packs but no luck Anyone got anything?

Cool. You won. Journalism and curation are dead I guess.

Life is full of compromises. You just won’t read what you don’t pay for 🤷‍♀️

The other thing people forget about bundles is that they are a massive entry and discovery mechanism for lesser known writers. When you buy the newspaper/magazine you end up reading more than the one article. You find new perspectives and new people to read.

I do find it funny people think they can’t be identified. The first 4 characters combined with make and model is pretty identifiable

I immediately question whenever a company makes the answer to all design questions with “make it humanoid” Pretty sure if someone briefed them with “make a crab”. They’d figure out how to answer it with a humanoid form. Humanoid is not peak design for every single task

I think the more these companies try to move into adjacent executions it’s just going to lead to unfocused businesses. But that doesn’t mean it won’t convince some people they can take over every industry

Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 11/03/2026
That’s not to say it won’t happen. And you will hear about it constantly. But I don’t think it will be as pervasive as it sounds. For instance CBS’s big shows still get 10-15+ million viewers. But you don’t hear about that. It’s going to be action vs story for a long time

Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 11/03/2026
I see this as the same cycle of people taking advertising in house. It sounds great in theory until they realize they now have to run the agency they wanted to get away from. Other analogy would be à la carte media like Netflix. But it gets exhausting being your own network programmer

PS - sorry for all these. I just really like this question since I’m trying to build in whatever this new era even is. So I have a million things to say

Basically this. Saas has to change but I don’t think it’s going to die. People still want to buy products

So the real challenge for saas in the era of LLMs/AI is expanding depth. Because if features can be copied direction and customer understanding is the product.

Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 11/03/2026
To the top point. You’re right. The commodity problem is real. But it’s not overarching. It’s a depth of service problem. I think for too long depth of service just didn’t matter for a lot of saas products. They were a default purchase. It’s the default that’s in trouble.
120
Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 11/03/2026
On the build it yourself side. There’s a reason people don’t just build all their furniture from Home Depot when ikea exists. And yes. I understand that tools are a startup cost most don’t want to spend but I could point you in the direction of community workshops, etc

The CRM example is something I see come up the most. And people are right that you don’t need hubspot if you’re using it as glorified Rolodex. But that’s wrong tool for the job problem
120
Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 11/03/2026
On the saas front. The value of saas and product in general has never been the cost of production. It’s eliminating the need to build. Saying that you’ll just hire someone to build just for you gets inefficient quickly. Does everyone want to build their own CRM?
120
Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 11/03/2026
My push on this is that it underestimates how little work people want to do for answers and overestimates/falls victim to the “everyone is like me” problem. The second is part is pretty prevalent (self included) because main users of LLMs right now are early adopters who want to do the work

You have it all wrong. It’s to pump up the price to make Venezuelan extraction cost effective. It’s frightening how easy it is to tinfoil hat this

Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 07/03/2026
Figured out split of "LLMs are alive!" and "lol, No" Alive people - Only engage LLMs in language. The thing they can produce ad nauseum No people - anything requiring an LLM to do specific things. 5 year olds are better at direction than LLMs Do the second. You'll see. They're not.

People are an absurd grab bag of positions. The idea that there’s some magic position is idiotic. Just show people how you’ll make their life better. That’s it.

Been thinking about this a lot. Realized doomsayers fall into the fallacy that function is the product Completely misunderstanding good product isn’t simply what the thing does. It’s knowing why that thing is the answer Lots of good companies to be built. Just new tools to build them

Feel like this needs a heavy asterisk of Manhattan will be taken care of. Took them a week and a half before they cleared street corners. Bushwick playgrounds were still frozen over from the last storm until 2 days ago.

I very much understand the desire to want to believe the machine is thinking but it's not the case. They are just so good at mimicking the cues of life back at us. It's more animatronic taxidermy

Here's my take on anything LLM personality trait related Spin up a million sessions. Give them all the exact same bone dry prompt/context. You will never see an emergence of a personality "Personality" only happens after prolonged sessions when you're reading your own rorschach back to yourself
110
Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 21/02/2026
It’s literally a customer service prompt. From retail to high end sales everyone is taught “is there anything else I can do?” It’s like asking if an improv sketch is sentient because every interaction is a “yes, and…”

Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
Sure. You should be able to clearly communicate in modern channels but your job is to win people in your district/state. Not Internet points with an already skewed demographic who frequent those platforms
110
Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
But don’t you know the only way to win local races is by creating fan bases with people who aren’t in your constituency and can’t actually vote for you?

I mean. What are we to expect. This man’s administration laid so much of the modern groundwork for the abuses we see today. I don’t know that he disagrees with the power grabs as much as he cares (barely) about the current person doing them.

Garrett @garrettblack.bsky.social · 07/02/2026
Yeah. You usually have to walk it up to that line. It’s happened in sessions where it’s not listening to something I’m telling. It or it gets stuck in wrong work loops. I start swearing at it. It reciprocates
