Regrettably our members will be commencing strike action from 9 February over the victimisation of our Health and Safety Officer. uniteucu.wordpress.com/2026/01/28/u...
Headline: 'Unite staff to strike over union victimisation' with the quote 'Across the trade union movement there is one thing we are all united on: that we do not act unlawfully towards our own. This issue will now bring together all voices across our movement. The victimisation of our Health and Safety rep and the threat to their job and livelihood must end immediately."

ASOS which is "work in the same way you’ve done for years" is not irresponsible. It's protecting our members until a fair & equitable hybrid policy is agreed. UCU SMT then deducting 100% of daily pay from staff taking ASOS & undermining its own policy? Now that’s irresponsible.
Photo showing an article from the latest Private Eye on the Unite dispute which exposes UCU management's hypocrisy, in particular highlighting a quote from an SMT member that strongly suggests our action short of a strike (ie, continue doing your job but office attendance remains voluntary as it has done over the last five years) is somehow irresponsible.

We call on Jo Grady and UCU SMT to:
• Enter negotiations with Unite UCU without preconditions.
• Stop the threat of punitive deductions for ASOS - this breaches UCU and TUC policy and only serves to undermine all of us, not least those UCU members currently involved in legal test cases against punitive deductions after taking lawful industrial action.

Jo Grady calling Queen Mary management "vindictive" for making deductions from UCU members taking action short of a strike: Jo Grady, UCU's general secretary, said Queen Mary's senior management had "launched a vindictive attack" on its members, "punishing them for taking part in lawful industrial action" and "cementing its reputation as the worst university employer in the UK" She said: "It is wrong to do this at any time and all the more deplorable as staff struggle to make ends meet in a cost of living crisis."Screen shot of the article from The Guardian about Queen Mary ASOS deductions in which Jo Grady is quoted

Image shows cover of H.P. Lovecraft's 'The Dunwich Horror'. The whole cover is taken up by a brightly coloured and psychedelic picture of a creature appearing to advance towards the onlooker across some farm land. It has a head like a goat but which is partly obscured by a shining globe. Its body is in reds, greens, and yellows and possibly covered in fish scales. Red tentacles emerge from its stomach. On its legs, as if symbols on its clothing rather than body parts, are two circles somewhat like wagon wheels. A relatively normal farm house is in the background but the sky is green and the sun or moon is turquoise. The Author name is in black at the top with the title beneath it in pink. Above the author name, also in pink, is written 'Travels into unspeakable terror by America's master of weird fantasy'. Underneath the title, again in pink, are the words 'With an introduction by AUGUST DEREITH'

Image shows the cover of Peter Godfrey-Smith's 'Other Minds: The Octopus and the Evolution of Intelligent Life'. A drawing of an orange octopus, from an above head-on perspective, takes up the centre of the the image, with its arms arranged in such a way that it tends towards the symetrical. The author name is in blue at the bottom, with the book name in blue at the top arranged in two columns - one with the main title, one with the subtitle. The background is an almost white grey.

Image shows the cover of 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak. The title is in black on a white bar across the top. Similarly set out across the bottom are the words 'STORY AND PICTURES BY MAURICE SENDAK'. Between them, we are shown a beast with a head like a bull, a blue-grey furry body, with claws on its hands, but with human-like feet, sitting among some tall trees with its eyes closed as if sleeping. Next to it is a body of water in which there is a boat with orange wood and yellow sails.

Image shows the cover of a Pelican Books edition of E.P. Thompson's 'The Making of the English Working Class'. A no-nonsense white box header contains the title in black and author name in blue. In the background is a rail bridge with a very early steam train on it, pulling a coal cart.

Image shows the cover of Raoul Vaneigem's 'The Revolution of Everyday Life'. The cover is divided into three roughly equal horizontal bars (although the first is a little bit narrower). The higest bar is a mid grey with the title right at the bottom in black with the exception of the word 'everyday' which is in a sort of peach colour. The middlemost bar is a photograph of a snowy, mountainous scene with a silhouette of a figure in the foreground looking out upon it. The author name is in the top right of this bar. The lowest bar is black. At the top of it is written 'We have a world of pleasure to win, and nothing to lose but boredom'.

The main image is of Doctor Doom peering over the top of a newspaper bearing the headline 'TODAY'S THE DAY: WEDDING BELLS FOR REED AND SUE!'. You can see the fingers of his metal gloves around the edge of the paper and the top part of his metal mask with rectangular eye holes. He is hooded and the beginnings of his cape are visible. Above the top border of the image, words read 'THE FABULOUS F.F. HOLD A LONG-AWAITED WEDDING, ONLY TO FIND...' and then below that, within the image frame in an explosivce text box, it says 'BEDLAM AT THE BAXTER BUILDING!'. A circular box on the upper left contains the words 'THE MOST SENSATIONAL SUPER-SPECTACULAR EVER WITNESSED BY HUMAN EYES!!' On the opposite side, in a rectangular box are the author credits.

Image shows the cover of David Toop's 'Ocean of Sound: Ambient sound and radical listening in the age of communication'. A large photograph, probably originally monochrome but with the white spaces artificially colourised to light blue, takes up all but the top 10 percent of the cover. It shows water, with concentric ripples from, perhaps, rain drops. A reflection suggest a tree but it is hard to make out. The photo has a white border. At the top of the page the author name is in simple black capitals, with the main title next to it in the same shade of blue as the photograph. The sub-heading is underneath in much smaller type. At the top right of the photograph, within its boundary, are the words, in white ''This history of ambient music is a masterpiece' Observer '50 Greatest Music Books Ever''

Image shows the cover of Charles Fourier's 'The Theory of the Four Movements'. It is a spectacularly horribly designed cover and in all honesty, I nearly forewent the alt text because you may be better off not knowing. However, since you clicked the alt button, It's a mid-to-dark blue cover with the title written in orange faux handwriting ever so slightly lower then the centre. The author surname (we don't get the first name) is in white, above it and to the right. The series title 'Cambridge texts in the history of political though' is in a thin column of white text - one word to a line in every case except 'in the' - and the editor names are in a thin column of orange text at the bottom. Between every line of text is an orange line. It is foul.

In the centre of the of the cover is what looks like spilled, red jam but with a perfect empty circle in the middle. Emerging from the jam, as if the jam itself is producing them, are a large number of ladybirds spreading out over the page. Beneath them is a paragraph of writing consiting of invented words and letters. All these elements are surrounded by a thin, gold border with a strange symbol in each corner. The background is cream in colour.

Image shows the brightly coloured cover of Jim Woodring's 'The Frank Book'. The title is in large, curvy, serif lettering devised by the author/illustrator. There is a shape reminiscent of a club from a deck of cards cut into the A of 'Frank'. Underneath is a picture of the book's protagonist, Frank, an anthorporphised bipedal creature of uncertain species, sitting on an ornate chair on a balcony. Next two him are two strangely shaped animals filling, it is implied, the domestic niche normally filled by pet dogs. On another balcony beyond Frank, a frog can be seen calling out to the sky. Three other frogs can be seen just below the first frog (perhpas on the ground, perhaps on another balcony) also calling out to the sky. In the further distance another building, purple and red, can be seen. The shape of the buidling is slightly like a frog's head. The title and picture are on a background that looks a little like a turkish rug until you notice it is made of eyes.
