Masts and yards done. Little tip - modellers often run thread through furniture wax to get it to hang more realistically and dispel any fluffiness. I've discovered that if you use a coloured wax in a very dark brown, it imparts a great depth of texture for realistic looking rope. #histscalemodels

Wood effects are go! A few random planks picked out in varied colours, then the whole thing dry brushed in a lightened version of the base colour. Finished with a wash of burnt umber oil paint to pick out the grain and the joints. #histscalemodels #trireme #ancientgreece

At Birmingham Airport on the way to Belfast. It's like the 7th Circle of hell here. Security a nightmare. Vast herds of European athletes swanning about making it worse. We're down visiting my mam at the moment and it was Weston Pride today. Went to great party in the park, with a such lovely atmosphere in the sunshine. Here's mam with an absolute star we met called David. He was on the local news this evening, for being fabulous.
