Got all caught up on school work, so I was able to spend some time outside before the storm rolls in. It’s a perfect fall day. It’s currently 69° F with 42% humidity. Spotted this Thyreodon Atricolor Wasp today while I was outside. Beautiful creature! This is my first time getting a photo of one. They are a parasitic wasp that lays eggs inside Sphinx moth caterpillars. They prefer woody edges which makes sense, because that’s exactly where I live. #bugsky #nature

I haven’t lived in the Midwest (where I grew up) for over 20 years, but one thing I still have from my time there is a love for casseroles. I made this using, zucchini, peppers & tomatoes from the garden. Other ingredients: rice cooked in sofrito bouillon, cheddar cheese, beans and onions. #foodsky

Comptonia peregrina aka sweetfern isn’t actually a fern. It’s the only extant species in the genus Comptonia. It’s a nitrogen fixer & It’s used by several moth species as a food source. You can eat the nutlets or make a tea with the leaves that you can drink or use to treat poison ivy. #nativeplants

I think this is one of the caterpillars that was feeding on my swamp milkweed fueling up for the journey. I collected some seeds earlier. I’m planning on adding 8 more plants to my Asclepias incarnata patch next year and I’m going to grow twice as many Tithonia. #gardening #bugsky #photography

American Burnweed was used by Indigenous communities to treat cuts, rashes, hemorrhoids and upset stomach. It got its name because it is one of the first plants that appear after an area has been scorched by fire. The flowers are a favorite of wasps. It’s a symbol of hope and rebirth. #nativeplants

I’ve tried every plant based bacon substitute under the sun. I make a delicious tempeh bacon, but it doesn’t really satisfy that bacon craving. This brand that uses mycelium is by far the best 1 I’ve tried. Hopefully they can get the cost down at some point because its too expensive. #vegan #foodsky
