Learned to make cyanotype prints today at a Fingal Makerspace workshop. This was my favourite of the lot, using a dried allium flower head from the garden. Definitely want to try this again.

Cyanotype print of a dried allium, with some of the individual seedheads placed on the page to look like they’re falling off the plant. The area around the flower is exposed to light, turning the dyeing compound blue, while the covered areas blocked by the objects on the page stay white.

Very belatedly bagging up the spring bulbs I dug up in July. Will be unpacking them again in about 5 or 6 weeks. Why am I like this? 🙃 😭

A clear plastic tub containing paper bags full of spring bulbs and shredded paper. There are so many bulbs to pack. SO MANY. HUNDREDS.

We need to reduce our plastic consumption. The Re-Turn scheme might take plastic off our streets, but it’s probably ending up on someone else’s streets. Most plastic isn’t recycled. The soft drinks companies know this. We know this.

Something iffy about this article. Poorly sourced for a start, then I took a closer look at the cover photo and their about page and well, yeah. I’m sure there are more reputable sources out there.

We leave a couple of shallow trays filled with water and stones around the garden for visiting birds and insects, but the magpies pick out the stones and the trays become a drowning risk for bees, etc. Recently we made this insect watering station from old takeaway sauce tubs & lids. It works!
