This is a weird year - sweat bees are still visiting mint and this great black wasp does not realize what season it is. At least the asters are on point (missed the leaf cutter bee visiting bloom by a millisecond) #nativepollinators #nativeplants #homegrownnationalpark #bloomscrolling

Great black wasp struggling to find nectar at the end of season - without sun, its iridescence is nearly invisible. If there was ever an image for my current mental health this is it. Just hold on and keep trying - #bloomscrolling #mentalhealth #nativeplants #nativepollinators

Every year butterfly weed grows where it wants - rarely in the garden! And I always have at least one yellow bloom which is never in the same spot. Butterfly weed really seems to take diversity as an assignment and I am here for it #nativeplants #homegrownnationalpark #mentalhealth #bloomscrolling

Bring on the Pyeweed! Apparently it hybridizes easily and I started with sweet and spotted. But it’s gorgeous and pollinators adore it! If you want to see sleeping bees or bees using leaves as umbrellas- this is your plant #homegrownnationalpark #bloomscrolling #gardenwithcoffee #nativeplants

Thinking this week about overgrown paths in the garden and the trend of wild things toward chaos. Here is a reminder that native plants matter and butterfly weed is not just for monarchs. And a plant in the lawn is a plant Learning to let go & grow #nativeplants #bloomscrolling #nolawn #mentalhealth

Caught the activity at my work pollinator garden that I helped design and install. It is seriously all about the muticum right now. So many pollinators! Black digger wasps were everywhere and they are so stunning. #nativepollinators #bloomscroll #homegrownnationalpark

Wild columbine showing off brilliant yellow and red flowers- aquilegia canadensis Dark pink blooms ready to burst - Kalmia Latifolia - aka mountain laurelThe medium pink of wild geranium (geranium maculatum) blooms above green foliage - this plant does well in dry shade but sometimes acts like an ephemeral disappearing until spring Blue-purple blooms of woodland phlox (phlox divaricata)- this phlox is beautiful and fragrant - but well loved by mammals too. Shown here against a backdrop of woodland strawberries. It’s a nice alternative to vinca - and doesn’t attract ticks
