To be fair, I think she tends to at least endorse political candidates that are more pro-social safety net. At least she's not making public donations while directly trying to make the problem worse.

Get him an electric bass guitar if none of his friends are playing one. You can be surprisingly competent very quickly (with simple parts).

I think uBlock Origin was handicapped on Chrome not that long ago, so it's much less effective on youtube while using Chrome. I think it's still as effective as it used to be on other browsers though. I'm so used to the Chrome UI though, I don't like using other browsers.

Detroit-style hits so good sometimes. If you have it too much, it's really heavy and easy to get sick of, but it's amazing when you have it on occasion. Even the $10 detroit deep dish at Little Caesar's is great.

Pricing isn't quite right yet on the economy side, IMO. It's getting to be a better and better value proposition though. Most of the cheap ones on the used market have terrible range, but that will improve over time because the new ones all have better range.

Maybe it was their intention, but I feel like that dance is just the dance that people universally default to when they can't dance.

I got hooked on that song as a kid. I still like them, but it's a shame that the other lead vocalist left the band. His very different voice was a cool contrast, like Blink-182 with Mark and Tom.

PS5 releases will be winding down by then anyway though if there's a PS6, so maybe don't let this announcement make your decision. Plus, PS5 is a much better console than Xbox for physical because significantly more games are playable completely with just the disc.

That company has such a ridiculous valuation, a super unappealing investment as a megacap. Fanboys point to XYZ future moonshot growth prospects, but every tech giant has those and no one is paying stupid earnings multiples for them.

I guess you could balance it out by not making it swappable for X amount of time after release, and charge a small fee for each transfer that goes to the publisher, so they get longterm royalties out of it at least.
010
garden-state @garden-state.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
It would be awesome if you could swap digital games with people, but I imagine it might be hard to get game companies on board. It seems fair on the surface, but it might be so convenient that many would never buy direct from the publisher again.

garden-state @garden-state.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
Very cool feature. Gives you the same convenience/portability advantage of buying digital. Feels kinda weird if they end up releasing this as they phase out physical games. "We just gave physical games all the pros of digital without the cons, but now we're only selling digital games."

I hate doing it too, I've gone years between changes at times. And not with fancy, coated Elixir strings either.

Seems like a good idea to separate them, don't want the economic difficulties of one dragging down the other one. The cable utility business is very different from the media production business, not that much synergy.

I didn't play it that early, but I do imagine it was a huge stepup from Madden on PS1/N64. I do remember Madden 2001 absolutely blowing me away when I got a PS2. Never had a graphic jump that big between console generations since.

garden-state @garden-state.bsky.social · 29/06/2026
Wow, that's a lot of strings. I think I would rather build a house than re-string one of those.

IMO, the worst quality hot dog on a grill will beat the best quality hot dog made with a stove in any fashion. I don't have a grill, so I don't even bother with hot dogs.

That is definitely an issue with it. If you're not discerning enough, it can make you confident about misinformation.

Oh yeah, I don't think wildfires are a super big worry in Michigan because we get so much humidity. They exist, but I think they're much less intense than out west and typically far away from any significant populations.

I've never lit the projectile kind, but my cousins like them. A couple years ago, they had this mortar one that tipped over with the wind and it almost hit a house across a small lake 😬 I imagine there's a lot of worry in the PNW with them these days, not with user safety, but with wildfires.

The advantage of digital "ownership" like this is the ability to stream anytime, but it's been messy because only the ones approaching monopoly market share have incentive to keep their service going. Even Microsoft and Sony weren't big enough to want to keep their storefront up.

When I was a kid in Michigan, it was illegal to sell (and technically, use) the fireworks that went airborne. A lot of people would drive to Ohio to buy them. They changed that law like over a decade ago though. My family would just buy the "fountain" fireworks that stay on the ground.

I feel like it's been a LONG time since Little Caesars even offered your typical in-house pizza delivery. It might have been before the 'Hot N Ready' was a thing, or maybe they never did, and these bags were just for large catering orders.

Yeah, I think PS5 has a better overall catalog of exclusives, much better footprint too. I still lean Xbox though because Halo multiplayer is my 2nd most played game, and the Dualsense controller is just hard on my hands with a lot of games. Also, you have access to better media apps with Xbox.

Damn, I've been ready to buy one for a while, but I've been putting it off because I have a ton of stuff I'm already playing without needing it. But I guess I should buy before the hike because consoles appreciate like land now.

CE looked and played so great for its time. If you play the original today, it doesn't have that "too dated" feel that a lot of 3D games around that time have.

I like Mario Tennis gameplay more than any other tennis game, but Superstars Tennis is decent. I don't like the powerup special moves in either though. I think you can disable them in Mario, but not Superstars.

I'm probably in the minority, but I like CoPilot a lot as an AI chatbot. I switch between it and ChatGPT, sometimes Gemini. It's largely an aesthetic/readability thing. The web browser page is pleasant to look at, and I like how the answers are formatted.

I see a lot of "free month of rent" offers, but it seems to be usually places that are listing at prices that are too high for the market they're in to begin with. I don't think of it as a free month, I think of it as I have to divide the sum of the rest by 12 to get the true rent.

I loved reading those after watching movies. Looking up the singular movie thread on reddit isn't as good. I liked how evergreen some threads could be, you could have threads dead for years and one comment gets it going again.

I feel like social media engagement has gotten a lot darker than it was 10-15 years ago. Most people probably feel better being highly filtered as a public figure on a public forum. It's just mentally healthier.

It genuinely seemed decent for the time, I just wasn't in the mood. I didn't get into console RPGs until Final Fantasy X, was pretty much just Pokemon before then. I'm sure I'll never play Quest 64 now tbh though. So many good, newer JRPGs that I don't have the motivation to play as it is.

I rented Quest 64 from a video store like 20 years ago. I remember killing wolves with my staff a few times and I got kinda bored tbh and stopped playing.

I think I first heard this song and really liked it in the Adam Sandler movie, Big Daddy. Just looked it up, it was actually a cover. www.youtube.com/watch?v=muBL...

Ukulele is a good one too. Cheap. Super easy to play beginner stuff, not as daunting as guitar. Plus, it's good if you can't make too much noise as it's relatively quiet.

That said, I do think Playstation has better face buttons, dpads, and the R1/L1 are better than the Xbox bumpers. But overall comfort is more important, particularly with so many games being heavy on dual sticks/back triggers.
010
garden-state @garden-state.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
I think the big advantage is the back triggers/sticks. The asymmetrical sticks feel so much better to me and the big back triggers are ideal for shooting/driving/sports games. PS5 has come a long way with the back triggers though, a lot better than PS2/3. Blocky shape of PS5 is a stepback tho, IMO.

Yeah, that was such an obvious misstep. Subscription services get a lot of revenue from people who aren't even using them, hike the price and those people are suddenly noticing it on their credit card bill.

A more ergonomic controller and Halo multiplayer are the big selling points over Playstation to me. Port Halo MCC/Infinite and Xbox controller support to PS5, and then PS5 crushes it in my head.

I've actually thought to myself if I had a bunch of money to blow on a pure fun purchase, I would buy that same guitar. To elaborate, if you could only own one electric guitar, that Delonge guitar has limited versatility. But it is really cool on an individual basis.

for some reason, the clicks of the cheap plastic keys with an $80 casio keyboard aren't quite so romantic.

To be fair, I would think the prospective community is relatively small these days. COD was dominating console shooters, but now Fortnite and Overwatch take a huge slice of the pie on top of that. Halo was always bigger than Gears and even that's somewhat dead now.

At least with Halo, that's their rotting scrap meat. The campaign has had 2 different remasters already and it doesn't even include the multiplayer. Halo CE is one of my favorite games of all time, and I have little to no interest in it. Maybe I'll play it in 8 years when it's $5.

I'd actually like to do it again as a side job, but I would probably feel awkward since it skews so young. You obviously don't have to be young, but the economics of swimming largely necessitate dead-end poverty wages that mostly only young people settle for.

I really liked being a lifeguard, but it was the opposite of chill sometimes. I remember stressing out because of bad lighting and I couldn't clearly see all the people I was supposed to be watching.

garden-state @garden-state.bsky.social · 07/06/2026
It does exist, right? It's just like $100 for a used one on eBay. I know they were originally made for Xbox One, but I think they're compatible with series S/X controllers.
