I don't know if I've ever played a game that wants you to break it more than Star Ocean 2 does. I got this stat-doubling sword from fishing. I'm not even doing the crafting. The game has an item-duplication skill that you can just have. There's in-game XP multiplier abilities.

Star Ocean 2 Second Story R screenshot of the Equip Wizard showing a new sword I got, the Searing Sword. It shows that it would increase my ATK stat (currently at 576) by 648, an absurdly high increase.

Welch from Star Ocean: Second Story R. She's holding a metal stick with a big Master Hand glove at the end, pointing it at the camera. (The hand is also pointing its index finger at you.) She has an angry expression.

one of my favorite walkthrough experiences of all time is the baten kaitos 100% completion guide where it starts off as this super detailed, caring experience and then like halfway through the author just starts saying "fuck off go read another guide if you advice for the dungeon"

gamefaqs screenshot of a dungeon section
LABYRINTH OF DUHR (s36)
(It lists several items that can be found)

"1. Despite being called a 'labyrinth', this area is pretty linear. Save at the red flower first."

"2. You can follow the instructions in Dark Vortex' walkthrough, no need to repeat here. You'll also find a family member in the labyrinth."

A similar picture for Zosma Tower
"1. The solutions to the puzzles can be found in any walkthrough. The chests are obvious and in your path."
The chests are, in fact, not obvious or your path

i made this years ago and i don't think i ever posted it over here

really badly drawn 2 panel comic of Kita and Bocchi from Bocchi the Rock

in the first panel a coy Kita says "It is pride month, gotoh-san. you know what that means"
an anxious(??) looking bocchi says "huh" and "what"

in the second panel we see a confused/shocked/haggard looking bocchi say "do you want me to write like" "gay lyrics" "what"
to a Kita with a sly expression who only says "..."

i've been playing Lunar lately and learning about the role the game played in the history of video game localization, and oh my god this might be the funniest fucking quote i've ever heard

"Q. What's your greatest concern when one of your games is translated for the U.S. market?

A. The dialog [sic]. The only English I know is the English I learned at school, so I cannot tell if the minor nuances come through or not. ... Even in Japanese, we are very sensitive about the wording we use; we rewrite many, many times. ... One word in a scenario can move people's hearts. .... Therefore, (bolded) we need a translator is a genius."

Wake Up Dead Man is the most Umineko movie of all time yeah, I went in expecting a lot and it was somehow even better than I imagined it would be

5 star letterboxd review

"This review may contain spoilers.

Yeah, this movie was made for me in a lab.
I love a murder mystery that explores the humanity behind the crime, and I think this movie has delivered even more on that than any other Knives Out movie.

As far as the mystery itself goes, everything's great. I knew who the victim was from frame one, but that's hardly an issue. It does the fantastic thing of showing you things and then changing the context of those things in a way that would make you feel stupid if you weren't too busy being impressed by how well done it is.

I knew from the second that the trailer showed the religious setting, this film would deliver on another conflict I love in mystery: belief VS truth. While this didn't quite dip into the full derangement that I enjoy from a spiritually-charged murder, it still did everything I wanted it to with regards to the detective (always the outsider) serving as this warrior-like figure, fighting a battle for the truth that absolutely no one else wants.

While I usually dislike the "Let's just all be friends" ending in these times of fascism, I respect the stance the movie takes with its ending. After a film about a horrible man who thrives on branding the wicked and casting them out, a man who builds an entire platform off of this rhetoric, you see Benoit walk the same path at the end - he takes power by rising up to the same pulpit, raised above the whole room, and makes his whole grand speech about getting the checkmate moment he''s been chasing. And he sees the face of the woman he's about to ruin and he steps down instead, ironically acting much more Christian than anyone else in that building. Making a detective story and then taking the big part of the ending, the big "how it was done" speech where both the detective and the writer takes his bow to the expectant audience, and then taking away the satisfaction of that moment to deliver a lesson on mercy and on resisting the urge to get one ov…
