Steam just had its biggest September ever, and analysts expect its first $20B year. Alinea Analytics estimates September at $1.7B (+13% YoY), Q3 at $5.5B (+12%), and Jan–Sep at $16.5B vs $14.5B last year. Wardogs alone made an estimated $86.9M.

Sony is bringing AI upscaling to the base PS5. It’s called QSSR, a lighter version of the PS5 Pro’s PSSR built with AMD under Project Amethyst. Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei get it today, and Sony says it’ll be offered to all PlayStation devs.

Sony might already be having second thoughts about killing physical games. Moore's Law Is Dead says Sony recently sent developers a big survey, indirectly asking whether ending physical PlayStation releases could cause problems. Sony is expected to stop new disc manufacturing from 2028.

Activision says it wants to make the greatest Halo game ever. Xbox has handed the next major Halo title to a newly built Activision team, separate from Call of Duty. Halo Studios will keep supporting the existing games. That's a bold promise when Halo 2, Halo 3 and Reach are your competition.

Despite reports, Ninja Theory hasn’t closed yet, but closure looks increasingly likely. Microsoft says two attempts to sell the Hellblade studio fell through and it’s now consulting staff on a proposed closure. It also filed a new US trademark for SENUA, its 2027 game.

Silent Hill is so back. Silent Hill 2 Remake was excellent, Silent Hill f proved the series could thrive beyond its familiar setting, and Townfall is now scoring around 81–82. Three well-received Silent Hill games in three years. The renaissance is real.

Probably an unpopular opinion 3 days after launch: Wolverine's biggest problems look fixable. The bugs, rough edges, performance issues and general lack of polish can improve with patches. But some issues feel like deliberate design choices, and those are much harder to change. It’s too early…

Capcom is having an absurd 2026. Resident Evil Requiem: 88–89 Pragmata: 86–87 Monster Hunter Stories 3: 86 Onimusha: 86 Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen coming October 9. Five games. Capcom simply decided missing wasn’t an option this year.
