Jabberwocky (and characters) aside, the atmosphere and music also helps add to the “everything gone wrong” vibe its going for in a way that makes sense (at least by Wonderland standards, it does) Basically what I’m saying is that, for as flawed Alice is, the game still has lots of charm (6/6)

Because, from a literal standpoint, he’s an asshole who was trying to force Alice to surrender and got what he deserved. But it also meant she overcame her survivor’s guilt. This little fact actually carries over to the sequel, Alice: Madness Returns, where he’s already dead (5/?)

A really good example is the Jabberwocky later in the game. He represents Alice’s survivors guilt. He exists because Alice strongly felt guilty for being the sole survivor, and he doesn’t hold back on making her feel guilty. It’s also what makes his death satisfying (4/?)

Speaking of Wonderland’s state, it does reflect on Alice’s current state. A lot of her friends are now her enemies, and those who still ally with her are in pretty bad shape. But again, they’re not twisted to look twisted, some of them are reflections of Alice’s feelings (3/?)

But I think a lot of modern games that try to pull the same thing off don’t really have anything that explains WHY it’s dark. AMA (or Alice, as I’ll be calling it), does. Wonderland is as twisted as it is because Alice’s psyche is utterly shattered. She’s also the only one who can repair it (2/?)

For one thing, it was one of the first games to kickstart the “dark twist on fairytales” genre, but it also does so in a way that it doesn’t feel like its edgy for the sake of being edgy From a broader perspective, it doesn’t feel that way, and I wouldn’t blame anyone for that (1/?)
