Yeah it gives some extra strength for grip, climb, and push while climbing and moving from branch-to-branch. Usually in other species, like humans, it's a defect that occurs uncommonly but certain animals like binturongs are just adapted to have them.

Neat Bearcat Fact I actually just found out, binturongs actually have syndactylous (digits that are semi-fused together) toes on their paws. So despite having 5 toes, the 3rd and 4th ones are sorta combined. #Binturong #Bearcat
