Did anybody see the rack of kit - possibly hub net? - on the YOTA stand? Sadly, I couldn’t get near it due to the large group of young amateurs!

Top marks to Chris and the Yaesu team for their fun with the young ham who now has multiple hats! 🤣 That really did make lots of people smile and is a great way to make people feel welcome! 👏

Yes. I am ashamed to say I didn’t wear mine, although I did have some super conversation with somebody who was wearing one as they were keen to chat.

The reboot is happening and the Convention changes are part of that. What you see in the lectures is only part of the weekend. Keep an eye out as there was lots of filming and interviewing going on (please don’t laugh at mine!) with the aim of inspiring people to try new things.

Phil has nailed what I wanted to say. It’s now very STEM and youth orientated, and a very different atmosphere. Lots of great workshops and youth-led activities. The RSGB and organising team should be commended for this.

They’re planning this one. Will be a GB YOTA callsign and from about 1030 onwards, weather permitting!

G7SOZ @g7soz.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

That’s too polite! I really had to bite my tongue!

110

G7SOZ @g7soz.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

I’ll try to find out later

G7SOZ @g7soz.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

Looks like fun! Keep an ear out for the RSGB Youth team, who are heading out for a POTA in Milton Keynes at some point this weekend. Will try to find out more details later.

Oh and then I was mansplained on various work-related topics….

100

G7SOZ @g7soz.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

it was fun to mention having a heat pump, solar without batteries, and my annual energy bill compared to being on oil. Decided against really shutting them up! 2/2

Had to bite my tongue yesterday when somebody talked at me about how heat pumps, solar without batteries and electric cars are rubbish, and mansplained about overheating houses etc. 1/2

Good luck to all Hammists heading to Milton Keynes this weekend - just remember to adopt the Fast & Furious style driving technique, and don’t slow down for the roundabouts 🤣🚙🔥

Have you tried running a vertical off the tower? That would be fun!

110

G7SOZ @g7soz.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

A vertical is all that's needed. I'm sure somebody could help with the radio interfacing.

You’d do well on 2m SSB and FT8 from GU.

i only buy the odd CD but enjoy the first play on a decent hi fi. I love the ability find stuff online too. Never tried vinyl and still scared from the joys of cassettes as a yoof 😱

It was an exceptionally warm night across the UK for late September, with some stations recording 22°C during the early hours. The temperature has been rising all through the night at Edinburgh, for example. Red box highlights just how much last night stands out from individual site records.
