The scheme continued with minor changes for 48 years until reforms in the 80s and in 1993 the Earthquake and War Damage Commission was renamed Earthquake Commission.
Still from an EQC TV ad showing cracking ground in front of the letters EQC.

Toka Tū Ake's natural hazards history starts in 1945 when the War Damage Commission became the Earthquake and War Damage Commission. This was after some big earthquakes - Napier in 1931 and Wairarapa in 1942. [Photo: St Matthew's Church, Masterton 25 June 1942. National Library Ref: 1/2-123919-G]
A black and white photo of people looking at a damaged brick church. Walls have collapsed and the roof hangs unsupported.

While we wait for the Beehive website to return (down for 8 days now!) who remembers its predecessor executive.govt.nz?
Screenshot of executive.govt.nz from March 2001. It's very red, of course. Headlines include STATE RENTS SLASHED, TEAC - SHAPING THE SYSTEM IN TE REO, and GOVERNMENT EXTENDS SUCCESSFUL NUMERACY PROGRAMME.

It's not clear why they're shouting.
