Today is #TransDayofVisibility 🏳️‍⚧️ & the last day of #WomensHistoryMonth. To celebrate both we're botanizing some of the flowers in Marsha P. Johnson's flower crown! 🌻💐🌺🪻🌷 Can you ID any? #TDOV #botanizing #botany #flowercrown #herstory #plantID #fwbg
An old photo of Marsha P. Johnson. She is beaming at the camera and wearing a large crown of flowers which have had their names added to the photo. They are: Daisy (Asteraceae family), Baby's Breath (Gypsophilia genus), Statice (Limonium genus), Carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus), Lilies (Lilium genus).

In regards to that last post about having a lab, now would probably be a good time to mention - yes! The Garden has a lab 😅 And you too can say hello 👋 to the Sumner Molecular Lab by going to the BRIT building in the parking lot and turning left in the lobby.
Photograph of the BRIT building's left atrium. We can see the hall down to the main atrium in the distance. An entrance to our left to the lab is labeled "George C. and Sue. W. Sumner Molecular and Structural Laboratory".A photograph taken from inside the lab of a set of blacktop counters, a sink, and several instruments and boxes.
A bumper sticker sized art peice is hand drawn and taped to the wall on the left and says "Ferns are Ferntastic" (pun on Fantastic).

Researchers are sentimental creatures... Can you relate? #lablife #botany #pcr #fortworth #fwbg #dna #BotanicalResearchInstituteofTexas #BRIT
photograph of a polaroid picture showing the first PCR test (Polymerase Chain Reaction test) performed at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas.

The polaroid is both taped and magnetically pinned to a lab shelf. Its image is dark but shows the bands of DNA glowing and separated out in the agarose gel.
In the white space of the polaroid, beneath the picture, someone has lovingly written "First PCR at BRIT".
