Arrested Development meme of Tobias and Lindsay talking.
Panel 1, Lindsay: "Well. Did it work for those people?"
Panel 2, Tobias: "No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but..."
Panel 3, Tobias: "But it might work for us."

A righteous and appropriate ratio for an absolute dogshit story lede. He used his fame and influence to sexually harass multiple women, and you do not have to hand it to him.

When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

What perfect albums came out when you were 16? Apparently a bunch that I didn't appreciate until years later.
Album cover for Radiohead's Kid A, which depicts jagged snow-covered mountains in front of an ominous skyAlbum cover for The New Pornographers' debut Mass Romantic, which depicts a naked couple kissing in the grass with a goat and purple mountains in the backgroundAlbum cover for Modest Mouse's The Moon and Antarctica, depicting two disembodied ethereal hands in suit sleeves shaking in an ominous sky over a barren landscapeAlbum cover for Yo La Tengo's And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out, depicting a nighttime suburban scene of one-story houses and cars parked in driveways, probably in New Jersey. A figure is illuminated by a streetlight at the far right of the frame. Dark pine trees loom in the background.

JFC these assholes sure are dogwhistling hard for the crunchy health cranks. "Absorption of toxic material" means vaccine additives to these people! But also "electromagnetic radiation" would be a hilarious throw-in if HHS weren't royally fucked from the top.
Sec. 4. Fighting Childhood Chronic Disease. The initial mission of the Commission shall be to advise and assist the President on how best to exercise his authority to address the childhood chronic disease crisis. Therefore, the Commission shall:

(a)  study the scope of the childhood chronic disease crisis and any potential contributing causes, including the American diet, absorption of toxic material, medical treatments, lifestyle, environmental factors, Government policies, food production techniques, electromagnetic radiation, and corporate influence or cronyism;

My favorite sentence is from Cormac McCarthy's All The Pretty Horses and is about the protagonist's grandfather, but because it's a giant run-on sentence I can't type it all in and have to share an image of it instead.
His grandfather was the oldest of eight boys and the only one to live past the age of twenty-five. They were drowned, shot, kicked by horses. They perished in fires. They seemed to fear only dying in bed. The last two were killed in Puerto Rico in eighteen ninety-eight and in that year he married and brought his bride home to the ranch and he must have walked out and stood looking at his holdings and reflected long upon the ways of God and the laws of primogeniture.

Except that's what he immediately goes on to say in the article: he was insecure about his relationship with his wife and needed to reassure himself that she meant it when she said she loved him. His feelings of inadequacy weren't factual.

Like the quote about "feelings aren't facts" *is* specifically followed by an anecdote where the dude talks about how it helps him to process and address his feelings of insecurity
Quote: Robert (Ann’s husband) "We have this motto: Feelings are not facts. That gets us through the hard times.
At the start, I was going through some depression, and when we had sex I had so much stress. There were issues in the bedroom with her, and that happened many times, which caused more stress. She started seeing this dude who was an absolute stud, having sex with him and having a great-ass time, and I felt totally lame and inadequate.
That was really hard for me, for obvious reasons. I felt like, I’m a hundred percent replaceable. It took a lot of conversations. She was like, There’s nothing wrong with you, this is going to pass, therapy will help. Lots of tears were shed. But medication helped me, talk therapy helped me, changing the way we do things helped. That’s where feelings are not facts really mattered. Because I would ask her questions, and she would be like, No, I don’t feel that way; and I would be like, I know you like being with him more than me..."

I learned it from this excellent obit. www.thenation.com/article/worl...
Screenshot of an excerpt from an obituary of Henry Kissinger, which reads, "Kissinger Associates, a private consulting firm, profited from the fallout of Kissinger’s public policies. In 1975, for example, Kissinger, as secretary of state, helped Union Carbide set up its chemical plant in Bhopal, India, working with the Indian government and helping secure a loan from the Export-Import Bank of the United States to cover a major portion of the plant’s construction. Then, after the plant’s 1984 chemical-leak disaster, Kissinger Associates represented Union Carbide, helping to negotiate, in 1989, a $470 million out-of-court settlement for victims of the spill. The payout was paltry in relation to the scale of the disaster, which caused nearly 4,000 immediate deaths and exposed another half million people to toxic gases. In Latin America and Eastern Europe, Kissinger Associates helped broker what one of its employees called the “massive sale” of public utilities and industries, a sell-off…"
