Every time Melania opens her mouth, all I can think about is Latka from Taxi.

We cannot legislate or litigate insight, understanding, or wisdom. You can lead a MAGA to reason, but you cannot make them think. If there are genuinely irreconcilable differences between masses of the US population, what becomes the prudent and practical response?

I wish Trump and his band of soulless and brainless minions were the real problem. But the problem is the shallowness and lack of insight and wisdom of the husks that elected them. And that’s a human development issue.

Adelita Grijalva should sign the discharge petition whether she’s seated or not. Trump does stuff he “can’t do” every day. Why shouldn’t she?!

This is going to seem insane… But I’m starting to get the feeling that the Attorney General of the United States doesn’t have the best interest of the American people in mind.

Jason Dickerson is the Republican candidate for a special election here in Georgia, state Senate seat. He has to face a runoff election with a Democrat, Debra Shigley. Look at the garbage text I got from this dickhead today-

If there’s “no place for violence in America”, then why is there so much? It’s a foolish thing to say and contributes nothing to the understanding of the way things are.

Matthew Sigmon @furtherelement.bsky.social · 14/09/2025
@matthewjdowd.bsky.social Kirk clearly has some responsibility for what happened to him. The phrase “ there is no place for violence in America“, is utterly meaningless. It’s even less meaningful than just saying “stop it“, which just expresses a preference.

What is the form the mobilization you mentioned with @nicollewallace.bsky.social today? Agree we need adequate leverage to push back, but who organizes this and how?

Matthew Sigmon @furtherelement.bsky.social · 27/08/2025
I think it’s time to create a singular, formal opposition to the GOP/MAGA, and it’s not the Democrat party. It has to transcend and include Democrats. Someone with wisdom, voice, and leverage needs to orchestrate it. Now.

Matthew Sigmon @furtherelement.bsky.social · 27/08/2025
I think a 21st century Civil War has already started-been forced on us-and the only choice is whether those who prefer democracy surrender without a fight, or we gather into a singular force of opposition with the leverage to affect change.

Here’s what’s going on, I’ve been saying it for years- we have a wisdom crisis, and that crisis is a symptom. The fundamental cause is widespread stunted human development. The solution is complex, but a good start is accurate diagnosis.

@amandamarcotte.bsky.social Excellent contributions on Greg Sargent’s Daily Blast! Regarding Trump‘s temperament,“emotionally incontinent child” is right across the plate. I assume they’re either brain dead or afraid like Senator Murkowski. If so, they should rethink their choice of vocation as one that requires them to stand on sound principles. Their personal sense of safety or danger has nothing to do with the work they took an oath to perform.
020
Matthew Sigmon @furtherelement.bsky.social · 19/04/2025
Senator Murkowski announcing that she and her colleagues are “afraid” is interesting. Maybe she shouldn’t have chosen a vocation that’s only valid if you stand on sound principles. Easy, difficult, safety, or danger has nothing to do with it.

If I break the law and defy a court order, police come and drag my ass to jail. Trump and his cabinet do it, and we podcast about it while the news cycle goes apeshit. We need enforcement. The law needs to grow some teeth.

It’s stunning that the finale in our system of legal layers is “come on, play along because we have NORMS, damnit!” Ultimate enforcement relies on the executive branch (e.g., the U.S. Marshals Service), which the president controls!
070
Matthew Sigmon @furtherelement.bsky.social · 15/04/2025
2/2- Ultimately, the crisis reveals the U.S. system’s dependence on political norms and the willingness of leaders to respect the rule of law. Just as well we discover this unthinkable flaw now.
010
Matthew Sigmon @furtherelement.bsky.social · 15/04/2025
1/2- If a president refuses to comply with Supreme Court orders, the only formal constitutional remedy is impeachment, which is difficult to achieve in a polarized Congress. Courts can issue contempt orders, but enforcement depends on the executive branch, which may refuse to act.
