They talk about a "rap guy" in describing a woman. The latter is the subjective, the latter is the objective.

No. Portraying the Bechdel Test as an extremist point of view intended to support "even the most desperate of lesbian reading[s]" is gross. It has nothing to do with lesbianism, and even if it did, contextualizing lesbians as "desperate" in the context of womens' representation is gross.

100

It's not cherry picking when it's the literal text under examination.

000

Also that's a gross interpretation.

100

Except that they contextualize it with respect to a man. A man is discussed.

100

It doesn't necessarily need to. But it also doesn't.

000

It's literally talking about men and contextualizing women by their relationship to men. Not in a positive way. The rest of the song is perhaps arguably appreciative of women, with the opening serving as contrast, but that specific quote, in the gif, does not pass the Bechdel Test.

200

Is the Bechdel Test about men?

100

Contextualized by a "guy" mentioned in the dialog. Fail the text and spirit both.

100

I'm a child of the 80s. I definitely get the reference. Nevertheless, it doesn't pass the Bechdel Test.

The Bechdel Test's goalposts are well defined.

000

Great, they're objectifying a woman in the context of her relationship to a man. Allison Bechdel would be thrilled, I'm sure.

220

Regardless, contextualizing a woman by her relation to a man is the antithesis of the Bechdel Test.

Took my earrings (closed rings) out for the first time in five years and my earlobes feel weird AF. Nothing important, just... Weeeeird.

Periodic reminder for Christians: There is Divine precedent for flipping tables and whipping motherf*ckers for being dirty hypocrites. Go forth and do as Jesus would do.

This is US-specific of course(I live in the US), but it's much the same everywhere. People should free to speak "other languages" wherever they are, no matter what the predominant language is.

Every time I hear someone griping "this is America, speak English!" I think, Ahani Amayetli, Tsalagi hiwononi. This is "America," speak Cherokee. Or literally any other Native language. The purpose of speaking is to be understood by whoever you're speaking to. Everyone else can eat rocks.

Native physicians already have the cultural knowledge required to care for their community — but their expertise is often discounted. "It happens all the time in academia." She tries to explain that Native students know much more than any white students. healthjournalism.org/blog/2026/07...

Realistic. I didn't have sh*t as a kid and a cool rock is actually a cool thing tbh even today. Cool nature is a definite and real thing anyway.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything in this thread except that I'm 6'5" so people only and always ask me just because I'm unnaturally tall. Thanks, Dad. (He was like 6'9" and yes, he probably got stuff off high shelves for her but I don't want to think about that ewwwww)

One of the nice things that I've found about wearing a mask regularly over the last six years is that I don't have allergies anymore except when I don't wear a mask.
