I grew up in the Mizzou area, I have the most distinct memory of a whole crowd of Mizzou kids showing up to a football game with t-shirts that said "Scoreboard" and under it was, I believe, this very image of the Lawrence Massacre
An image of a black and white print from Harper’s Weekly in 1863 showing Quantril’s Raiders burning Lawrence during the Lawrence Massacre, quoth Wikipedia: “Print shows Rebel troops killing the citizens of Lawrence, Kansas, and setting fire to the buildings.”

RETVRN
A photograph of an IBM Aptiva desktop computer setup lifted from Reddit. It has a ~15” CRT display, a full-size keyboard, a mouse on a mousepad, stereo speakers on either side of the setup and and the IBM Aptiva tower which you would have found in my very own house circa 1995. It featured a 120MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology and notably a combo sound card/modem called the Mwave (which arrived doing 28.8 and ended up doing 33.6 via a firmware update, if you can believe it). The front of the tower featured an odd sliding front panel which hid the 3.5” floppy drive and the cd-rom. I still remember exactly how that sliding panel opened, I can visualize it opening in my mind like I’m watching it open right now.

I was walking by the office today anyway, pulled these out in case you ever wondered what the insides of a Xeon Phi 5110P looked like
Two Xeon Phi 5110P accelerators circa 2013 arranged on a table. One is fully assembled and still comically features a plastic cover stating clearly “WARNING REMOVE ALL PROTECTIVE COVERS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION INTO SYSTEM” (gg IBM, well played indeed) and the other is disassembled into five component parts, the accelerator board itself, the primary copper heatsink for the chip, the secondary aluminum heatsink/frame for memory and power components, the aluminum backplate which transferred backside heat into the primary cooling mass, and the lovely blue cover plate that says “intel Xeon Phi Coprocessor”A closeup shot of the Intel Phi 5100-series processor where you can just barely see the text which says:

Star Wars: TIE Fighter
Box art for "Star Wars: TIE Fighter" made by Totally Games and published by LucasArts in July of 1994 for PC and Macintosh. The box says "The Sequel to X-Wing By Lawrence Holland & Edward Kilham" in the bottom left corner (which it was) and has a LucasArts logo in the bottom right corner. The main art features a large background image of Darth Vader with a selection of different TIE ships flying away from an exploding X-Wing in a radial pattern. From top left going around to the right right, they are a TIE/IN Interceptor firing laser canons, a TIE/sa Bomber flying vertically, a TIE/sa Bomber firing laser canons, a TIE/IN Interceptor flying almost directly toward the viewer and a standard TIE Fighter firing laser canons. This was extremely cool in 1994, five full years before more Star Wars movies came out, to a certain sort of youthe (me).

Cool short pressing vinyl _and_ a Certificate of achievement?! @alliegoertz.bsky.social I don’t think you really use Bluesky but for someday when you log in again: you da best
A photo of a vinyl record and an official certificate issued to me by Allie Goertz on a wooden table.

The vinyl record is “Peeled Back: A Tribute to Nine Inch Nails”, a NIN tribute album recorded by Allie Goertz that 773 people crowdfunded because Allie Goertz is awesome and we all wanted it to exist. If you’re not jealous yet, the cover of the album is signed in silver marker “xoxo Allie Goertz” which is super fuckin cool and I’m definitely being extremely normal about it.

The certificate says: “I helped Allie Goertz make her Nine Inch Nails cover album ‘Peeled Back’ which I own on limited edition vinyl.”

Which is true, I did do that and I do own it, which you can believe because the vinyl is also in the picture.

“The City” then, is it
A short gif of comedienne Eddie Izzard performing her special “Dress to Kill”, which was filmed in San Francisco. It’s from an early riff about names for the city of San Francisco that locals do not appreciate, including “San Fran” and “Frisco”, which she finishes by saying “So you call it ‘The City’” and then makes a sort of mocking noise implying pretension.

A photo of a cluttered entertainment center beset by stacks of vinyl records, speakers, too many electronic gizmos, some art I cannot ever seem to get hung and a television showing a title card that says “directed by Iain Softley” from the film Hackers (1995), released on this day (Sept 15) in 1995. Somehow I have no photos of _me_ on the rig or of the cockpit cause cell phone photos in 2006 reasons I guess but we got to like _look in one_, it was extremely cool. Pima Air & Space is so good, cannot recommend it enough if you’re in the burning desert anyway.

They’ve had a couple different static SR-71s at Pima Air & Space Museum, among my very favorite planes also. They had a big todo when they set up a display, a panel of pilots that flew them talked about how wild it was. Excuse the quality of the photo from ~2006 taken with a slider phone potato cam.
A terrible cell phone photo circa ~2006 I think taken at the Pima Air & Space museum showing a panel of SR-71 pilots that talked about how bananas flying it was.

I was so sure there must be a good game buried in there somewhere. I played so many hours looking for it. If I could just level up a few more skills or build out a slightly better ship or find the marginally better weapon. Chasing mirages for hours and hours.
A screenshot from my Steam library showing my Play Time of 265.4 hours for the game Starfield which is notable in this instance because I would not recommend this game to anyone in particular as 50-75% of that time was the most dull grinding imaginable leveling up just trying to make this game fun. Spoiler: it did not work.

Is Starfield bad, like. Yes. But also is it good sometimes? Sorta. Sometimes you hang out with your bff Amelia Earhart who says shit like "What's buzzin' cousin?". Sometimes you take your workaholic friend to the beach for a break. Sometimes your special lady hops up on a wall for no obvious reason.

One of them is the companion character Andreja and she is inexplicably holding a sandwich which I can attest she was, in fact, eating, at the time.A photomode screenshot from the game Starfield with a strong old-timey filter and photo frame showing the companion character Andreja sitting on a wall outside The Rock in Akila City in a very specific pose that I will attempt to describe. Her left leg is hanging off, while her right is bent and sitting perpendicular to the wall with the foot planted flat. Her right arm is bent over the raised knee of her right leg and her left arm is supporting her on the wall. She is facing directly into the camera. Taylor Allison Swift that is _ENOUGH_. You cannot put a bonus track on a retailer-exclusive edition, that is simply uncalled for behavior. Now you stop releasing editions of this vinyl record _this instant_.
Another email from master of retail psychology Taylor Swift announcing yet another colorway of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) vinyl, this time exclusive to retail chain Target that includes a bonus track not on the other editions. This act constitutes, I believe, a war crime, under the Geneva Conventions, and I look forward to seeing her face justice at The Hague.
