Just heard there's a Cambodian style pho and it sounds incredible. It was mentioned in a review of a food truck and no way I'm getting soup from a truck but surely there's a real restaurant here serving this.

Winsor McCay's "Little Nemo in Slumberland," one of comics' greatest graphic masterpieces—often still astonishing even after more than a century—first appeared on October 15, 1905. Here’s the debut:

So when I put in the maintenance request it had to go into an AI box which generated *exactly* the same request the old system would have. AC doesn't work, here's the resident's explanation. Exactly identical. In fact I can't think of any way AI could improve this system.

There's a new translation of Invention of Morel and the afterward only gives a couple of minor reasons for a new translation. Probably money if nobody is going to say it was badly translated before or had been cut or is just more fluently done.

I appreciate when the maintenance guy leaves a note saying what he did even though I don't understand it.

Remember all the Moby Grape singles being released at once? That's often credited with the fact that most people haven't heard of Moby Grape.

NEW: I wrote about why so many people wanted to believe that Ukrainian airstrikes on a Russian data center reduced troll and bot activity online, even though it's almost certainly not true. Featuring @noupside.bsky.social: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Drone strikes didn't take out a Russian bot farm, but we were primed to believe It
A viral rumor illustrates people’s hunger to make sense of the division we see online.

Went to try this new place Dumpling Master. They required ordering through QR code so bye bye. I know how to do that but if I was going to order online that's what I would have done. Besides it looked more fast casual and there are two better places across the riad.

Had my first Impossible Burger and it was pretty good. Closer to beef than the vegan country steak I had was though that's not really an important criterion for me. Though I'll still stick to my veggie and sometimes turkey burgers.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Two weeks ago there was a fraudulent charge on my card so they said they'd cancel and send new one. I called when it didn't arrive. Turns out they didn't cancel, just declined any purchase attempt. Plus side is I'll probably be at home when UPS makes a rush delivery.
