I was just visiting, and its a _relatively_ safe place! But that's a whole different kind of danger. Danger from crime or US politics, etc are a whole different discussion. The kind of danger I am talking about is state sponsored electronic crime: identity fraud, banking fraud, and remote hacking.

Some states are more dangerous than others. The US government does not currently have direct and unfettered access to the data of US companies. By contrast, the Chinese government has easy access to the data of any company in China. I would not trust Google or meta or X with your personal data.

All the models are unsafe in this way. I think China is more dangerous because China has far more censorship They just have to find any privileged system where their model is run, then deploy an update with a very narrow attack that might not even be noticed.

You can have hidden triggers in the model somewhere like "after this date, make the following assumption, and hide it from the user" or "If a user types or speaks a passphrase, unlock all locks connected to the system" We don't yet quite have the calculus to detect these hidden tidbits.
