This was the first time Dean put me on the guest list for a Luna show, I couldn't convince anyone to take up my "plus one" - the guy on the door called me "Billy no mates"

Today is the 27th anniversary of the release of Luna's The Days of Our Nights. Dean called it "a bloated dud" in his memoir "Black Postcards, although he retracted that later - "That’s too unkind. There are some nice songs on it." www.instagram.com/p/DX4N7KEFQQn

On this day in 1987 Galaxie 500 went into 6/8 Studios in New York and recorded seven songs, three of which made up the band's first demo tape ... so, if you think that when a band first gets something on tape is when it is born then today is Galaxie 500's birthday! open.substack.com/pub/aheadful...

Or maybe there's an argument that the point at which you stand in a room together and play, even if there's nobody watching, is the point a band is born. On the 27th May 1987 Dean, Damon, and Naomi had their first rehearsal

Hand holding a hardback book, the book has an illustration of a blonde woman with a ribbon of words coming from her mouth. The text reads "Hearing Voices" at the top and "Dean Wareham" at the bottom.
