Who's this sexyman? 👀 Meet NAND Cypher, straight from hit series Binary Calls: our mascot's one and only blorbo—one of them, at least. And to unlock his full potential as narrative core and educational pillar of Issue 2 he needs...a human fansona! Help him 👇👇 do numbers on 2013 tumblr dot com ⬆️⬆️
Hand-drawn sketch in dark ink on stained, parchment-colored paper. At the center, a cartoon character shaped like a rounded NAND gate stands on two stubby legs, surrounded by a ring of radiating dashes like a glowing circle. A line labeled Q rises from its head; A and B are written at its feet. Around it, scribbled diagram notes: logic gate symbols and wiring on the left, a truth table of ones and zeros under A, B, and Q on the upper right, and "AND NOT" with "D X Do" gate scribbles on the right, with wavy lines standing in for handwritten text.

Speaking of feats: soon releasing 📚 FujoGuide Issue 2 (Pre)²view!📚 After rewriting and restructuring (and re-rewriting and re-restructuring), this first part of our GitHub issue now meets our greatest ambition: Help you learn to tame GitHub*, and have fun doing it! *or other cloud-based catboys
Screenshot of a web page section titled "Issue 2 – Version Control in the Cloud (ft. GitHub)" in mint-green bubble lettering on a cream background. On the left is the black-and-white cover of "The Fujoshi Guide to Web Development, Volume 0 Issue 2": a winking girl with glasses and pigtails, wearing a fluffy coat and boots, holds a tiny cat-eared character in her palm while three other small characters climb her leg and coat; the bottom of the cover reads "Version Control in the Cloud, the (Pre)²view (ft. GitHub!)". On the right, under "In this Issue", text reads: "When Boba-tan's laptop dies in the middle of her latest project, Git and GitHub team up to save the day! With their powers combined (and her code in the cloud), Boba-tan can finally get back to the choice that matters: should her shrine feature her blorbo's sexy monster form, or his equally sexy human fansona?" Our first beta feedback 👇 was very positive, but there's still a lot to improve—not to mention, a couple extra chapters of advanced challenges to write (like how to fork and contribute to other projects, mayhap? 👀)! Writing this in public means even more direct feedback...and it's fun 💪✨
I definitely felt like this was a lot more confusing than the first issue (which is funny because I've at least used github a little bit before but not git) but that's due to the subject matter and not the writing. i don't want to say github is more complicated than git, it just had more possibilities of messing up (but thankfully it seems most of those mess ups are accounted for in text)
The writing was amazing and amusing. Overall a very entertaining read. The “take a breather” tasks were actually really nice and properly spaced out, giving readers good places to stop. It also meant it was easy to pick up again even after a few days (or in my case a week cause work was a terror between me starting this and finishing it).Overall thoughts: Actually really enjoyed going through this! I feel like I understand what's going on with everything outlined, for the most part. I did end up having to read some things multiple times before I got what they were saying -- to a certain extent this might be unavoidable, given there's a lot of terminology and a lot of it sounds pretty similar when you're not familiar with it, but making sure everything is as direct and concise as possible would probably be a good idea.

Zarnitza on tumblr says: Code stuff is hard, thank goodness for @fujowebdev or I would not have any confidence with command prompts or even of attempting to back up nonsense with tumblr utils.

Its not working yet, but I'm getting there!

Fujowebdev replies:

Aaaaaaah!! it makes us so happy to hear that!!

For people that don't know, we wrote a series of articles to help demystify using a terminal! We hope they can give people who feel scared to use one a solid base to start from, and a reference to come back to as they gain confidence and broaden their skillset!

Let us know where we succeed and fail :) we're here to help everyone get access to useful programming tools that can make their lives on the web better!

This stream is in 2 hours (and a bit) at 3PM Pacific! Realized today that we didn't properly explain what AtProto or labels are. So here's a quick explainer 👇 See you soon on Twitch! www.twitch.tv/essentialran...
#i don’t understand what i’m reading but i’m so excited

Only now realized most people don't know what a labeler (and AtProto) is and we did not explain properly!

AtProto is the underlying technology BlueSky is built upon! It's a series of tools, "here is how you must build your stuff so it's compatible with us", and general concepts that allows other social sites and tools to emerge and work together with BlueSky and its network.

Among the concepts AtProto specifies, there's "labels", applicable to either posts or accounts. They are, well, labels! See for example the account of one of our collaborators, labeled with their pronouns and their favorite languages 👇

A bsky account labeled with programming languages and pronouns
ALT
These enable a bunch of cool things, including being part of something called "composable moderation", but let's not get too ahead of ourselves! What we'll be doing (in about 2 hours!), is specifically just making a labeler and using it to explore the underlying technology.

To get started, we'll build a "what type of fujoshi are you?" labeler, based on the famous animals classifications! To do this, we'll start from @alice.mosphere.at's labeler starter kit and use it as a jumping point to learn more about how AtProto works! github.com/aliceisjustp...

As you can imagine, A LOT of work from A LOT of incredibly talented people went into making this day possible. Our mission was not easy: creating an approachable and engaging learning experience for beginners with a technology as complex as Git? "Impossible!", many would say.
Git invoking a diary, like a magical girl. Text reads: Caneln Git's Powr
With everyone gathered in CSS’s showroom/studio combination, it’s time to start creating (and snapshotting) our outfits!
Unfortunately, while Git’s memory powers are boundless, they have one itty-bitty weakness: they only work within a repository. Luckily, Git can invoke his secret tracking diary at a moment’s notice and turn any directory into a repository.Aria is in the spotlight, with CSS and boba-tan gushing over him. Text reads: A Truly Perfect Maid
The maid costume fits perfectly! And yet, CSS can’t help but feel the outfit is still missing a little je ne sais quoi. As he’s racking his brain on how to achieve his perfect vision, ARIA has an idea: maids are cool, yes, but you know what’s even cooler? Cat maids.
Improved plan in hands, CSS asks Git to upgrade the outfit to include a new centerpiece: cat ears.
